[UPDATE: Microsoft has confirmed these leaked titles. The official trailer has been added below, but otherwise, the original story follows.]
Christmas is right around the corner, New Year’s is just beyond that, and before anyone knows it, 2021 will be over. This new year means a new selection of upcoming video game releases, offers in subscription services like PS Plus and Xbox Games with Gold. For the latter, this information is typically revealed just before the calendar flips over, but the line-up for these and more have leaked online.
All leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, but Dealabs user BillBil-Kun has a practically impeccable track record to go by. Not only have they leaked every single PS Plus free game selection, including January 2022, for the past few months, but they have accurately leaked every single game in the Epic Games Store mystery game promotion thus far. So, if there is a leaker to believe, it is BillBil-Kun, and they’ve also leaked the Xbox Games with Gold lineup.
According to this leaker, Aground, NeuroVoider, Radiant Silvergun, and Space Invaders Infinity Gene are the games fans can expect next month. Aground will be available as an Xbox Free Game with Gold from January 16-February 15, NeuroVoider from January 1-January 31, Radiant Silvergun January 1-15, and Space Invaders Infinity Gene January 16-January 31.
Aground is described as a crafting/mining RPG, where everything players do is justified by an overarching story. NeuroVoider is a twin-stick shooter RPG where players must destroy evil robots to defeat the master NeuroVoider. The latter has generally good scores on Metacritic, while Aground doesn’t have enough critic scores to have a Metacritic score. The user scores, on the other hand, trend as a pretty good game.
Radiant Silvergun is a 1998 vertically scrolling shoot ‘em up arcade game that was brought to Xbox and other platforms. The core classic remains intact, but there are a few new bells and whistles. Finally, there’s Space Invaders Infinity Gene—another arcade classic, Space Invaders, with an evolution twist where, as the game progresses, new movement options, weapon types, and more are unlocked as they defeat enemies and collect DNA.
Overall, it’ll be interesting to see how the Xbox community reacts to this Xbox Games with Gold lineup, assuming BillBil-Kun’s streak continues and this proves to be true. Early reactions are proving a bit divisive, with many commenting how they’ve never heard of these games before.
Xbox Live subscribers get a handful of free games every month.
