Microsoft has unveiled a new trio of special edition Xbox controllers, all launching simultaneously for the first time. The new "Breaker Series" introduces three striking Xbox controller designs — each with its own distinct look and style — and they'll be available to players worldwide starting next month.
Over the course of the Series X/S generation, Microsoft has released several custom colorways and partnered editions of the Xbox controller, while also reviving its Xbox Design Lab service in August after a seven-month hiatus. With controller customization continuing to be a core tenet of Xbox's strategy, the newly-announced Breaker Series offers not just one, but three fresh designs at once, catering to different tastes right out of the gate.

Xbox is Releasing Three New Controllers on September 9
The new lineup includes the Ice Breaker, Storm Breaker, and Heart Breaker Xbox controllers, each tied together by a jagged shard-like design language. The Ice Breaker sports a glacier-blue palette with a frosted translucent finish, textured grips, and blue accents across the buttons and thumbsticks, while the Storm Breaker goes in the opposite direction with a sleek mix of black, white, gray, and metallic silver, featuring an opaque shell and a metallic D-pad that sets it apart from the rest of the lineup with a camo-like look.
Meanwhile, the interestingly-named Heart Breaker Xbox controller features a translucent pink casing splashed with vivid pink, purple, and blue shards, paired with matching purple thumbsticks and pink-accented buttons, making it the most colorful of the trio. In terms of features, the Breaker Series controllers are functionally identical to Microsoft's standard Xbox Wireless Controller. They support the Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles, Windows PC, Mac, Android, and iOS devices via Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth, and each controller also includes textured grips, textured triggers, and a 3.5mm jack for wired headsets.
Users can further personalize their experience through the Xbox Accessories app, which allows button remapping, trigger customization, and vibration adjustments. Preorders for all three Breaker Series Xbox controllers are now live via the Microsoft Store at $79.99, with an official release date set for Tuesday, September 9. The controllers will be available on Amazon too.
The Breaker Series controllers definitely look cool, and it's great that Microsoft is releasing them all at once instead of staggering them like it did with the Cipher Series Xbox controllers last year. Bright and zany colorways aside, it should also be interesting to see if Microsoft still plans to release the upgraded "Sebile" Xbox controller that leaked a couple of years ago, as well as the long-rumored successor to the Elite Series 2 pro controller.
