Summary

  • Microsoft has added an option to launch Xbox PC games via GeForce NOW straight from Xbox.com.
  • The feature is a continuation of Microsoft's content streaming partnership with Nvidia, which was announced in early 2023.
  • The newly introduced integration is still not available in all GeForce NOW-supported countries as of July 18.

Microsoft is launching a new integration with GeForce NOW that allows users to start playing games via Nvidia's streaming service straight from the Xbox website. But the feature itself is either region-restricted or still in the process of rolling out globally, as not all Xbox storefront users in GeForce NOW-supported countries currently have access to it.

This development appears to be a continuation of Microsoft's partnership with Nvidia's streaming service. The collaboration was first announced in February 2023, when the company committed to bringing Xbox PC games to GeForce NOW. The move was part of its efforts to finalize the then-pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which faced international regulatory pushback over antitrust concerns, some of which were related to the deal's long-term impact on the nascent game streaming market. Partnering with direct rivals of Xbox Cloud Gaming such as GeForce NOW was Microsoft's way of assuring regulators it wouldn't use Activision Blizzard's content catalog to gain an unfair advantage in the sprawling streaming sphere.

Xbox Makes Accessing GeForce NOW More Convenient

As a result of that partnership, GeForce NOW subscribers have been able to play some of their Xbox PC games since August 2023, with that pool of supported titles expanding on a regular basis. Microsoft is now making it a bit more convenient to take advantage of this integration, having added Nvidia's cloud solution to the list of streaming web apps that can be accessed via its online storefront. The move hence allows users to launch supported games via GeForce NOW straight from Xbox.com by clicking the big green "Play with Cloud" button and selecting Nvidia's streaming service from a pop-up window.

Microsoft announced the new integration in the afternoon ET on July 17. The Best War Games's testing conducted with a VPN suggests that the feature is still not live in all 77 countries in which GeForce NOW is currently available. However, it can be accessed in the United States and United Kingdom as of July 18. The streaming service currently supports streaming of 252 Xbox PC games, including Gears 5, Starfield, Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition, Amnesia: The Bunker, and Hitman: World of Assassination. The full list of compatible Xbox games can be found on Nvidia's website.

GeForce NOW

This catalog is expanding on a monthly basis, with some of the most recent GeForce NOW Xbox game additions arriving in the form Lords of the Fallen, Still Wakes The Deep, and Disney Speedstorm back in June. Meanwhile, the Xbox versions of Gang Beasts, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, and Dungeons of Hinterberg were all added to the platform's list of supported titles over the course of July 2024.

GeForce NOW is not the only platform that supports streaming of Xbox PC games. Microsoft struck a similar content deal with Ukraine-based cloud service Boosteroid back in March 2023. However, GeForce NOW is the first third-party cloud gaming platform to be integrated into Xbox Store pages.
