Microsoft and Sony have often fought to undercut each other and the pair have constantly traded blows throughout multiple console generations. However, the tides for the two companies may now be shifting.
While console exclusivity often keeps fan-favorite franchises locked to a particular platform, the walls between Xbox and PlayStation have slowly been eroding over the years. Many Xbox franchises have begun to make the transition to PlayStation consoles, with Forza Horizon 5 coming to the PS5 earlier this year as a major new release. Both consoles also recently debuted big-name games from the other studio, with Helldivers 2 launching on Xbox Series X/S and Gears of War: Reloaded debuting on PS5. Now, Sony and Xbox have found an unlikely partnership advertising the other's games.
Rumor: More PlayStation Games Are Coming to Xbox
A credible source alleges that Sony is looking at porting more PlayStation first-party games to Xbox following Helldivers 2.
Fans have discovered that, thanks to the new versions of Helldivers 2 and Gears of War: Reloaded, both Xbox and PlayStation are now advertising the other's games on Twitter. The official Twitter account for Xbox currently displays the key art for Helldivers 2 as its banner, while PlayStation's Twitter banner features Gears of War: Reloaded plastered atop the Sony page. Both games were originally first-party games for their respective consoles, with Sony publishing Helldivers 2 and Xbox publishing Gears of War. Xbox even has the release announcement for Helldivers 2 pinned to its profile.
Xbox and PlayStation Advertising Each Other's Games
The unlikely coalition between Xbox and Sony comes as the console competitors have increasingly found common ground with new releases. Several previously PlayStation-exclusive franchises have begun to transition to Xbox consoles throughout recent years, including some high-profile third-party series like Persona. Rumors from earlier this year also suggested that one of Xbox's biggest first-party franchises may be planning to make the jump to Sony consoles, teasing a potential Halo game coming to the PlayStation 5.
The increasing debuts of previously-exclusive games on their competitor's consoles have proven quite successful for both Xbox and PlayStation. Helldivers 2 saw a significant spike in its player count following the game's long-awaited release on PS5, with its concurrent player count more than doubling following the game's Xbox debut. The previously-mentioned launch of Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 also saw the game quickly become the console's best-selling title of 2025. Fans can hope that the recent success of Xbox and PlayStation's partnerships pushes the developers to bring more of their fan-favorites to the competitor's hardware.
