A reliable insider has claimed that the highly-anticipated ROG Xbox Ally handheld consoles will launch in October 2025. While Microsoft and ASUS have yet to formally confirm these details, all signs point to a Gamescom 2025 reveal for the ROG Xbox Ally release date.
Back in June, Microsoft pulled the covers off the ROG Xbox Ally handheld at the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase. This upcoming duo of handhelds - developed in collaboration with Asus - comprises the standard ROG Xbox Ally and the beefier ROG Xbox Ally X. Though the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds are powered by AMD's latest Ryzen Z2 chipsets and feature up to 24GB of RAM, one of the biggest talking points around them is the gaming-centric version of Windows 11 they run, which claims to noticeably improve performance and battery life.
How the ROG Xbox Ally's Specs and Rumored Price Compare to the Steam Deck
The recent reveal of the ROG Ally sees Xbox making big moves in the handheld space, with the product having to compete against the Steam Deck.
ROG Xbox Ally Rumored to Release in October, Pre-Orders Supposedly Opening in Two Weeks
Microsoft was tight-lipped about the ROG Xbox Ally release date at the time, only citing a holiday 2025 window for the same. However, credible industry insider billbil-kun did specify an October 2025 launch window for the ROG Xbox Ally. Now, a recent Dealabs report from the insider further narrows the ROG Xbox Ally release date down to October 16, 2025, with pre-orders for the handheld duo purportedly set to commence on Wednesday, August 20. This perfectly lines up with the start date of Gamescom 2025, where Xbox is scheduled to hold a special livestream.
Therefore, it's safe to assume that the livestream in question will announce the ROG Xbox Ally release date, and since it's less than two months out from the alleged October 16 launch date, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see pre-orders simultaneously go live as well. As for price, billbil-kun sticks to their prior reporting of €599 (roughly $700) for the vanilla ROG Xbox Ally and a hefty €899 (around $1,050) for the stronger ROG Xbox Ally X. Do note that these price projections are for the European market, and US pricing may vary slightly.
Rumored ROG Xbox Ally Pre-Order and Price Details
- Release date: October 16, 2025
- Pre-order date: August 20, 2025
- ROG Xbox Ally price: €599 (around $700)
- ROG Xbox Ally X price: €899 (around $1,050)
Still, the ROG Xbox Ally's rumored pricing is on the higher end for a handheld console. In fact, it's looking to be even pricier than the Xbox Series X, which currently costs $600 and will likely be more performant than the ROG Xbox Ally in most games. However, the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds bring with them the undisputed convenience of portability - users can take their Game Pass library on the go - as well as the freedom of PC gaming afforded by Windows. The latter advantage means that ROG Xbox Ally users will even be able to boot up PlayStation PC games like God of War, Days Gone, Horizon, and more on their handhelds.
