Psychonauts 2 was finally released two years later in 2021 and was met with critical acclaim for its sublime platforming and storytelling. It even went on to become nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards that year, ultimately losing out to It Takes Two. Now that it's been over two years since the release of Psychonauts 2, it's safe to assume Double Fine Productions is well along in the process of cooking up its next title.
Tim Schafer Not Interested in Any Double Fine Games Becoming Movies

It seems Double Fine may now be gearing up for something big. Celebrating the new year, the studio posted on Twitter letting its fans know that there are "cool things in store" and "tons of fun on the way," all accompanied by a GIF of Raz from Psychonauts. The studio also mentioned its upcoming 25th anniversary, which will take place in 2025. The tweet didn't explicitly confirm or tease any new games, but seeing that it's been two years since Psychonauts 2, and the fact that Double Fine had previously confirmed it has multiple games in production, it may be high time for a new game reveal from the beloved developer.
The tweet begs the question of what Double Fine could possibly be working on, and the inclusion of the Raz GIF may not be so innocent. 2025 will mark 20 years since the release of the original Psychonauts, the studio's first game. As such, it would make sense for Double Fine to release a remaster of the iconic title that put it on the map. In terms of new games, the possibility of an announcement for Psychonauts 3 either this year or in 2025 seems viable, especially considering its development likely won't take as long as Psychonauts 2 now that Double Fine is more financially secure under Xbox and will no longer need to utilize crowdfunding to back its games. Seeing that Double Fine seemingly has some big plans up its sleeve, it wouldn't be out of the question for Tim Schafer's studio to show up if rumors surrounding a new Xbox Developer Direct turn out to be true.
