  • Xbox celebrates The Witcher 3's 10-year anniversary with themed wireless controllers.
  • Themed Xbox controllers have been released alongside major game releases.
  • Designs for standard and Elite controllers are identical, with Elite version currently sold out.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is turning ten years old this year, and to celebrate, Xbox is releasing a pair of themed wireless controllers based on the critically acclaimed RPG. Having won 2015's Game of the Year, CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt went down as one of the greatest fantasy RPGs ever made and has served as a comparative measuring stick for many newer fantasy games of similar ilk alongside Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

It's typical for Xbox to release special edition themed controllers alongside some of its biggest game releases. In past years, Xbox gamers have been treated to controllers based on Forza Horizon 5, Starfield, and Halo Infinite. Most recently, the release of id Software's Doom: The Dark Ages has also prompted Xbox to create a pair of special edition controllers resembling the Doom Slayer's green and silver armor and the bloody depths of hell. That said, it's quite rare to see Xbox release themed controllers for a game's big anniversary, especially a third-party title.

Having just passed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's 10-year anniversary last week, Xbox has gone ahead and unveiled a pair of special edition controllers based on the game in a minute-long trailer. As has become standard for these types of Xbox controller crossovers, one of these pieces is a standard wireless controller, while the other is an Elite Series 2. Both controllers bear a dark silver and black color palette, fitting for a Witcher, and prominently feature the Gwynbleidd icon in the center and The Witcher 3's bloody Roman numeral "III" on the right handle.

Xbox Reveals New Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Controllers

It's worth noting that the designs of both controllers are identical, so fans who only want to splash cash on the standard controller won't be missing out on a cooler or more impressive Elite controller design. Standard might be the only option for players at the moment too, as at the time of writing, the Elite version of the Witcher 3 controller is sold out. Considering these pieces both went live today, it seems fans' adoration of The Witcher 3 is still at an all-time high ten years later. Xbox will likely have more Elite Witcher controllers that'll be restocked soon, so gamers should keep an eye on the Xbox Store's accessory page for an update.

It was only a few months ago that The Witcher 4 was finally unveiled at The Game Awards, becoming one of the most thrilling reveals of the show. With CD Projekt Red hard at work on a number of high-profile titles, there's no knowing when The Witcher 4 will be close to release. It's possible fans may get another look at the game at some point this year either at Summer Game Fest, Gamescom, or once more at The Game Awards, though it's not a guarantee.
