Like the name suggests, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is being hyped as the best version of Monolith Soft’s classic RPG to date, building off of everything the previous versions have done. However, it turns out that the upcoming Switch remaster will be omitting a few noticeable features of the game’s 3DS port.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D was an interesting port. Released in 2015 exclusively for Nintendo’s New 3DS line, it pulled off the impressive feat of squeezing all of Xenoblade’s massive world into downgraded hardware while still maintaining the level of gameplay quality found in the Wii original. Helping it stand out further was amiibo and StreetPass support that let players earn tokens. These could then be used for the port-exclusive Collection Mode to unlock viewable 3D models and musical tracks.
Since the Switch also supports amiibos, these features could have conceivably carried over into Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, but a message on the game’s Japanese store page, as spotted by Twitter user Luxin, confirms that neither the Collection Mode or amiibo support will be included in the Switch version.
While there are fans who will be bummed out by that, at least the Definitive Edition will balance things out by introducing new content of its own. In addition to updated graphics, quality-of-life improvements, and remastered music, the game will also come with a brand new epilogue called Future Connected, which will be available to players from the start.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition comes out on May 29 for the Switch.
