Xenoblade Chronicles X was, and sill is thanks to the remaster, the only main game in the series that has featured multiplayer heavily into its intricate gameplay systems. It was a bit finicky on the Wii U, but thanks to more modern technology with the Switch, multiplayer is better than ever in the remaster.

While Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition can be enjoyed as a single-player game like the rest of the Xeno games, there are many benefits to use its online features. Let's highlight some of the best features now and why, perhaps, Monolith Soft should think about adding multiplayer into more of its games.

1 Getting Into Co-Op

Four Friends Can Save The Future

When players get to connect online in Chapter Three, they will turn their entire profile into a HUB. On one server, thirty-two players can mingle. That doesn't mean players can see a massive amount of players running around areas like an MMO. Instead, there are features players can engage with including these other players and the biggest hook is the four-player co-op.

With friends on Nintendo Switch, or in private groups with passwords, players can go on missions with three other people. This even works with Skells, the mechs of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, once that mechanic unlocks in Chapter 6. Mira, the world, is massive, so it can be quite mind-blowing to explore it with other people. It's not quite on the level of some of THE great co-op RPGs, but the changes made in this remaster can help players engage with any of the online options more easily.

2 Squad Tasks

A Revolving Wheel Of Missions

It’s fun to play an RPG with friends in co-op but Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition offers something beyond being tethered to other players. If players decide to go online, then they will see the world map sprinkled with blue icons. These are Squad Tasks and they come in a few varieties that players don’t have to go to a quest board to take on. For example, one of the more prevalent monsters in the starting area that look like pigs and are called Brass Suids.

Changing Divisions is pretty simple in Xenoblade Chronicles X --you just need to know where to go.

Squad Tasks cycle through objectives, so in one instance, they can mark Brass Suids as high priorities. While marked, any killed can earn players a special currency. Then there are bigger Squad Tasks with high-level monsters just begging to be challenged. They can sometimes be manageable and other times they can be near impossible. Either way, players are bound to reap in EXP for taking them down in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.

3 Material Market

Squad Tasks and other online components can earn players that aforementioned special currency in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. This can be used in the Material Market, which is a menu within the online data. Inside players can find dozens of materials to purchase with their hard-earned online bounties. Materials can be used for crafting gear or they be used to game the system.

Miranium is essential for item upgrades and mission progress in Xenoblade Chonicles X. Here's how to efficiently get, store, and use it.

One of the more prevalent side quests in the game is called Basic Missions. Most will task players with retrieving a set amount of items in the world. Instead of wasting time gathering them on the map, they can just buy them. Basic Missions can be repeated too, so with the Material Market players can kill two birds with one stone. There is a chance the Material Market can change in the comign weeks, so it's walways a good idea to chekc back. After all, there are login bonuses if players keep up with it.

4 Recruiting Blade Scouts

Look Out For Cameos

One of the biggest changes made to the game concerns its party system. Besides the main character, players can take along three characters on missions. To switch them out in the original version, players needed to physically talk to them in New L.A. And they weren’t conveniently gathered either. Imagine playing Final Fantasy 6, which has one of the biggest casts in the series, and having to hunt them all down in-between tasks. It would be a nightmare and that’s how it was in Xenoblade Chronicles X but now players can swap party members from the menu at any time. This helps with another online feature in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition called BLADE Scouts.

While exploring the world online, players can find the avatars of others on the server. They will not be controlled by another player and instead play like an A.I.-controlled guest character. One of the coolest things is discovering a BLADE Scout that another player has customized to look like a character from another game or piece of media like an anime. For example, check out this BLADE Scout named Squall who looks a bit like Squall from Final Fantasy 8. Kudos to the players dedicating themselves to being as close as possible to the originals when designing their avatars.
