In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, Irina is one of the first people you'll meet upon arriving in New Los Angeles. However, she won't formally join your team until you've completed the first three chapters of the story. Despite this, Irina is a worthwhile addition to your party, and one you'll probably keep on your team for most of your campaign.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has a large cast of party members, but few specialize in support arts and skills. Irina has access to a variety of support arts that can be of great help to your party in battle. Because of this, she's better off being used for buffing/healing than fighting.

Arts, Skills, and Gear
Irina is one of the three party members you'll automatically unlock when you complete Chapter 3: Builders of a Legacy. Compared to Gwin and Doug, she's the best out of the three of them and one you'll want to put on your team as soon as you can. Irina is an ideal support role for your party when you want to rank up combat-heavy Classes (ie: Classes with little to no support/green arts). Here are some art setup recommendations, skills, and gear for Irina:
Recommended Arts Setup for Irina
Irina is a Psycorruptor+ and can be ranked up to Rank 20. On top of this, she also has her signature art: Smooth Recovery. Support and aura arts aside, Irina does learn a handful of offensive arts, primarily ranged. However, as mentioned earlier, you're going to want to use Irina less for combat and more for healing/buffing. If you're going to upgrade her arts, you should start with those like Smooth Recovery or Medic Free.
You'll notice Irina learns arts like Brainjack and Servant Sacrifice. While these can be used on enemies at a much higher level than you, they're ineffective against Tyrants and bosses.
You can equip eight arts per character. For Irina, it should look something like this:
|

Last Stand |
Boosts allies' TP. |
1000 |

Best Skills for Irina in Xenoblade Chronicles X
Three of Irina's skills are designed to support her support arts, but the rest are for her debuffs. She only has four available skill slots. Since you'll use Irina mainly for support, you should focus on upgrading only three of her skills. However, if you're using her for debuffs, then King's Decree is recommended for the Brainjack art. Like arts, skills can be upgraded, too.

Best Gear for Irina in Xenoblade Chronicles X
While she'll be keeping the party going with support buffs and HP restoring, Irina herself has poor defense and low HP. This is a formula for characters that can easily be taken out in a few powerful hits by the enemy. Because of this, you'll want to suit up Irina with armor that increases her Max HP or Evasion Up. The Worn Forza Norak is body armor with a Max HP Boost VIII perk.
As for weapons, you'll want to focus more on ranged weapons for Irina. Get weapons that have the Ranged: TP Up perk. Irina uses the following equipment:
- Knives
- Assault Rifles
Unfortunately, even with defense/hp-enhancing gear, it might not be enough for Irina. Because of this, you'll want to make sure you have the Medic Free aura art. This will give Irina debuff resistance and revive her upon being incapacitated (once per battle).

Should You Have Irina in the Party?
How Useful is Irina?
Unless you're confident in your support skills, you're better off leaving the AI to Irina for battles. You just need to make sure Irina is equipped with the right arts and skills. Irina needs to keep up her TP in battle for arts like Last Stand and Medic Free. Thus, if you're not playing as her, you can set her command to save up her TP if she's getting low.
If you want to play as Irina, avoid drawing aggro as much as possible. Stick to your ranged weapon and use your ranged arts during Soul Voices. If you need to build TP, you can switch to your melee weapon if your ranged weapon doesn't have the Ranged: TP Up perk. Generally, melee weapons build up TP in larger numbers. Have Irina auto-attack instead of using melee arts (ie: Assault Hammer).
