Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has received a new update, and the patch notes reveal what has been changed. This latest update for Xenoblade Chronicles X focuses on bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, meaning players should have a more stable and enjoyable gameplay experience.

While most Nintendo fans are focused on the Switch 2, the company has not stopped releasing games for the 2017 system. Released on March 20, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition brought the game from the Wii U to the Switch. However, it was not a bare-bones port, as developer Monolith Soft made many notable changes to the experience, including graphics improvements and updated character models. Besides visual enhancements, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition added more story content, four new recruitable characters, an increased level cap, and made many other changes. While many fans have enjoyed the game on the Switch, there have been some bugs.

The Argument For And Against Xenoblade Chronicles X-2 Having an Avatar Character

The avatar from Xenoblade Chronicles X may need a major overhaul if the series is headed for a sequel and intends to re-use the approach.

Fortunately, a new update was released for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on April 23 that looks to squash these bugs and implement a few quality-of-life changes. This update moves the game to Version 1.0.2 and addresses over 20 problems players have encountered while exploring the open-world planet Mira. Some changes included resolving a crashing problem, correcting a display issue with destination markers, and fixing voice and text errors. Despite not adding significant new content, the update added more tips for some menu screens and made the buff and debuff icons viewable while playing Online Missions. In addition, the developer changed the names of two quests, called “Backup Request,” making it easier to differentiate them.

Seeing Xenoblade Chronicles X get another chance on the Nintendo Switch is doubtlessly nice for the fandom. While the game received positive reviews from players on the Wii U, that console was widely considered a commercial failure. Selling only 13.56 million units, the system had a much smaller install base than the Switch. With the Switch having sold more than 150 million units, the game can now reach a much larger audience. Furthermore, the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition makes all the core Xenoblade Chronicles games available on the Switch.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Monolith Soft and the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise on the Switch 2. While unconfirmed, some fans think Xenoblade Chronicles X could get a performance boost on the upgraded hardware. According to some gamers, the game has a hidden 60 fps mode in its files. Regardless of whether it gets substantial enhancements on Switch 2, fans can likely look forward to playing the game on the upcoming system thanks to backwards compatibility.
