A Proper Chopper is Normal Mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X that can be initiated after finishing Chapter 4. To complete this quest, players must fight off some enemies, locate some collectibles, and make a choice about how to approach the repair of a damaged helicopter. This guide is here to elaborate upon those steps, and it will help players complete the Proper Chopper mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Players can start the Proper Chopper mission by speaking with Roscoe at NLA's Central Industrial District.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: A Proper Chopper Walkthrough
Go to Noctilum's Sunlit Spring
After initiating the mission, players must make their way to Sunlit Spring, an area within the Noctilum region. Notably, players will have visited this area when working through the Chapter 4 Story Mission, and they should use Xenoblade Chronicles X's fast travel feature to quickly return to a nearby Landmark or FN Site, like FN Site 219. Players can then activate the Follow Ball, by pressing R + X, and follow the path that it creates to reach a downed helicopter.
Defeat Five Jovial Saltats & Talk to Howard
As players approach the helicopter, they will find that it is surrounded by jovial saltats, and they must dispatch those enemies. Once the indigens are defeated, Xenoblade Chronicles X players should speak with Howard, an NPC who is crouched near the helicopter, to receive their next tasks.
Gather Two Anhydrous Radiators & Find a Spherical EM Motor
The next tasks are to gather two anhydrous radiators in Primorida and to find a spherical EM motor in Noctilum. The locations of those collectibles will be marked on the in-game map, and players should track them (by hovering over an associated waypoint and pressing "Y"), deploy the Follow Ball, and follow the trail that it creates. Players should then simply come into contact with the blue diamond at the end of the Follow Ball's trail and repeat this process until they have all three of the requisite items.
Give the Materials to Ciska
Players must now return to the helicopter in Sunlit Spring and give the anhydrous radiators and spherical EM motor to Ciska. Once again, the game's fast travel feature makes it easy to reach this area, and FN Site 219 is a great fast travel point to target.
Repair the Helicopter's Main Rotor
Players must now interact with the rotor on top of the helicopter and either connect the parts to the blue wire or connect them to the red wire. While players are certainly free to pick either option, here are the consequences associated with both:
- Blue: At the end of the mission, players receive 10,000 Credits and Howard lives.
- Red: At the end of the mission, players receive 20,000 Credits and Howard dies.
A mechanic that can be found in the Administrative District's Hangar reveals that backup systems should be connected to blue wires.
Talk to Roscoe
Once the repair is made, players should return to Roscoe in NLA's Industrial District. Howard's fate will now be confirmed, and players will complete the Proper Chopper mission and earn the associated rewards. Those rewards are 180 EXP, the Meredith Light (Male) Holofigure, the Meredith Light (Female) Holofigure, and either 10,000 Credits (if blue was picked) or 20,000 Credits (if red was picked).
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Should You Pick Blue or Red in Proper Chopper?
If a player's top priority is not being responsible for Howard's death, then they should forego the extra 10,000 Credits and pick blue. However, if the player's primary interest is maximizing the rewards that they receive, and they do not care about the fate of the NPC, they should go ahead and select red when working through this Normal Mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X.
