A Yakuza fan has shown off a pair of boots that eerily resemble the garments worn by series protagonist Goro Majima, and the community had a lot of questions. Sega’s Like a Dragon series, also known as Yakuza outside of Japan, has produced several main titles and spin-off projects since its debut in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, and Majima has graced many of these entries to become a fan-favorite character.
The most recent title in the franchise is the upcoming action-adventure game Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which is deemed a spin-off starring Majima, who is stranded on an island after losing his memory to take up the pirate life. As a post-launch treat, Sega is offering rewards for players who sign up for the new Sega Account system, including a special DLC outfit for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. The account will allow players to track their progress in Atlus and Sega games, and the rewards are redeemable between January 22 and March 7.
Five Years Later, Yakuza: Like a Dragon Redefines What It Means to Be a Hero
Yakuza: Like a Dragon's Ichiban Kasuga is a hero in many facets, keeping the protagonist's debut emotionally resonant five years later.
Posted on Reddit by Saltycapss, a picture of the Yakuza fan wearing black leather, silver-toed boots was posted in the Yakuza Games subreddit. The fan noted they had found the boots on eBay and marveled over their similarities to Majima’s steel-toed boots from the game series. They also acknowledged that the boots were real and thought they were “eerily identical” to Majima’s accessories, even though the real boots weren’t officially licensed or attributed to the character in any way. Majima has accumulated a healthy timeline in the Yakuza series, and is known for his iconic clothing, making this discovery in the real world one to remember for the fandom.
Yakuza Fan Discovers Majima Boots in the Real World
The character has become a popular, recurring protagonist in the franchise, so much so that the Like a Dragon producer was shocked by fans’ extreme fondness for Majima. Naturally, the Yakuza community had a lot of questions, with one Redditor asking if the boots were comfortable and if anyone recognized them. The original poster replied saying they wore them almost every other day, and they fit like a glove, and another comment said they should be named “One Piece,” after the ambiguous treasure from Eiichiro Oda’s manga and anime.
Majima was introduced to the series as a Tojo Clan member and goes on to develop what the community calls a “sadomasochistic” infatuation with protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. The “clown” character, described by the developer, became a playable protagonist alongside Kiryu in the prequel Yakuza 0, and Yakuza fans are hopeful Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is not Majima’s swan song appearance.
