At the latest Nintendo Direct event, Nintendo confirmed that two more games in the Yakuza franchise would be making their way to the Nintendo Switch 2. Originating on the PlayStation 2, the Yakuza games have largely stayed away from Nintendo platforms. However, that all changed in 2024 when Yakuza Kiwami, the remake of the original Yakuza game, was released for the Nintendo Switch.
Yakuza Kiwami's Switch debut was followed up by Yakuza 0 being a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, giving Nintendo fans the chance to experience the beginnings of Kazuma Kiryu's adventures. Many have assumed that the other Yakuza games would make their way to the Switch 2, and now we know exactly when to expect the next batch of titles.

It's been announced that Yakuza Kiwami 2, the remake of Yakuza 2, is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 13. Yakuza Kiwami 2 features enhanced graphics when compared to the original game, along with quality-of-life features that smooth out some of its rough edges. The game also features some plot tweaks when compared to the original, adding up to an overall superior package. But when Yakuza Kiwami 2 comes to the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 13, it won't be coming alone.

Even though Yakuza Kiwami is playable on the Switch 2 already thanks to backward compatibility, the game is set to get a native release on Nintendo's latest home console/handheld hybrid. It's also been confirmed that there will be a digital bundle containing both Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2. This way, Nintendo Switch 2 owners can experience the first three Yakuza games natively on the Switch 2. While it's unlikely that those that already own Kiwami 1 on the Switch will feel the need to upgrade, this is a great opportunity for Switch 2 gamers to really dive in to the Yakuza franchise.

Assuming the Yakuza games are successful on the Switch 2, one has to imagine that other games in the series may jump ship as well. It's possible that Sega will bring the remastered versions of Yakuza 3 - 6 to the Switch 2, but with Yakuza 3 considered one of the weaker entries due to various outdated features, it could potentially opt for another Kiwami-style remake instead. Here's hoping that the Switch 2 eventually catches up to Yakuza releases and fans can enjoy the entire franchise, including brand-new releases, on the platform.
