Ever since the dark and stunning season 3 finale, fans have been curious about whether the harsh and complex characters of Yellowjackets are coming back to the small screen. Now, viewers can cheer knowing that Showtime has renewed Yellowjackets for season 4.

Yellowjackets premiered in 2021 and tells the grim tale of a girls' soccer team who end up in the Canadian woods after their plane crashes. With a nod to the famous book Lord of the Flies, the series examines how far each girl will go to feel powerful and to ensure their survival as the characters get hungrier and more afraid. Fans appreciate the strong performances as one actress plays an adolescent version of their character and another portrays the adult one. Sophie Nélisse and Melanie Lynskey stand out as Shauna Sadecki, who becomes even more violent by the end of season 3. Other cast members include Christina Ricci, Ella Purnell, Juliette Lewis, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Simone Kessell. Now that fans know there will be a season 4, they can think even more seriously about what should happen next.

Yellowjackets Season 4 Will Happen At Showtime

On May 20th, 2025, Variety reported that Yellowjackets has been renewed for a fourth season, and fans can expect to hear about production on the fourth season shortly.

Season 3, episode 10, "Full Circle," featured some big reveals, such fans finding out that Mari Ibarra (Alexa Barajas) is PIt Girl, and also dove deeper into Shauna Sadecki's harsh and dangerous personality. The episode also featured a cliffhanger as teenage Natalie Scatorccio (Sophie Thatcher) hears a male voice on a radio, which suggests that perhaps the group could get in touch with other people and possibly even be rescued soon. Yellowjackets has more than a few mysteries, but not everything should be wrapped up neatly. Some parts of the show will be more powerful if they are left alone.

According to Variety, President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and co-CEO of Paramount Global, Chris McCarthy, said:

“‘Yellowjackets’ has become a cultural juggernaut, with season three shattering all previous records – we are thrilled to announce its renewal for a season four on Paramount+."

McCarthy continued:

"Ashley and Bart have masterfully crafted an utterly singular, genre-defying phenomenon— a perfect alchemy of psychological horror, survival thriller, and coming-of-age drama that continues to captivate audiences worldwide, brought to life by our extraordinarily talented and beloved cast.”

Since Yellowjackets has such a rich world with so much story left to explore, it's great news that the show will get at least one more season. The showrunners shared their hope to make five seasons of the drama, and cast members have shared their thoughts about storylines for seasons 4 and 5.

Many are glad that there will be a Yellowjackets season 4 as fans want to see a timeline where the girls are rescued. It would have been a shame if the series ended before viewers saw that crucial storyline explored. While most season finales have cliffhangers, hopefully the last episode of season 4 will wrap enough plotlines up that fans will feel satisfied even if that fifth season doesn't happen. In the meantime, fans can catch up on seasons 1 through 3 if they subscribe to Paramount+ with Showtime.

There is no official release date yet for Yellowjackets season 4. While season 1 premiered in November 2021, the last two seasons had late winter/early spring release dates. Season 2 premiered in March 2023, and season 3 premiered in February 2025.
