Netflix's You keeps fans guessing, from what city Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is going to call home for the time being to which love interest he's going to obsess over. You season 5 will premiere in April 2025 on the streaming service and bring an end to Joe's gruesome and dark tale. After killing numerous people who he believes are obstacles on his path to trapping people in his beloved cage, Joe is diabolical, evil, violent, and as fascinating as ever.

Now that You season 5 is only a few months away, fans are wondering which characters could come back and whether Joe's past will come back to haunt him. There is one character in particular who viewers are curious about. This person had a huge impact on Joe and there are a few ways that they could return.

Could Paco Come Back For You Season 5?

Paco (Luca Padovan) is Joe Goldberg's neighbor in You season 1 and fans wonder if he could appear again in You season 5. Although Joe lives in London in the intense episodes of You season 4, he's back in New York City in the final season, which is where he knew Paco. Some think it would make sense for him to come back and even wonder if You could end with an explanation of what happens to Paco. One Redditor wrote:

"I honestly think the show could end with Paco now grown up and walking in Joe’s footsteps."

It's terrifying to imagine Luca as an adult stalking and killing people the way that Joe does. But, since Paco looks up to Joe and believes everything he tells him, this is plausible. Redditor @JayStorms8108 wrote, "I doubt he’s that little that looks up to Joe anymore. But at the same time, it’s a coin toss whether Paco found out who Joe really was."

Redditor @Sifsifm1234 isn't so sure that Paco needs to come back and wrote:

"I can’t think of a single reason plot-wise where it would make sense for him to return."

There are two ways that Paco could come back in You season 5: he could be living in New York City again or Joe could have a vision or hallucination of him. When fans last saw Paco, he and his mom moved away from NYC, which seemed like the right thing to do after the trauma they experienced. Paco saw Joe kill his abusive stepfather Ron (Daniel Cosgrove) and it's safe to say he will never be the same after that.

Although You season 4 had at least one filler episode that wasn't as engaging as previous episodes, You season 1 was particularly strong thanks to vivid characters such as Paco. Joe's dark and violent story has a lot of layers to it, and it's always compelling to see how the people in his life respond to him. While his love interests and acquaintances often figure out how creepy and dangerous he is, Paco is a young, innocent child who trusts Joe. Even when Paco sees Joe murdering someone, Paco still thinks the world of his older neighbor. Paco should come back so he and Joe can talk about what Paco saw. It would be interesting to see how Joe manages to explain himself. Paco's presence would also force Joe to think about his own tragic childhood and reflect on the harm he has caused others. While Joe started to do this in previous seasons, he still has a long way to go.

What Did Showrunner Sara Gamble Say About The You Character Paco?

In an interview with Variety after the You season 1 finale, co-creator Sera Gamble talked about Paco and Joe's close relationship. She said:

“Paco has been a character that illuminates the best, most compassionate side of Joe. He educates Paco, he gives Paco a sandwich when he’s hungry, he keeps Paco safe. And then he does this incredible thing in the finale.”

Gamble also mentioned the intense moment in the You season 1 finale when Paco simply assumes that Joe is right to keep Beck captive. Paco doesn't see Joe as the terrifying character he is. Paco doesn't question Joe and goes along with the ride, which is disturbing. Gamble said:

"His faith in Joe and his trust in Joe was so deep that Beck could literally be screaming through that door, but what Paco has just learned is that if Joe is doing something like this, he must have an incredibly important reason.”

Whether or not Paco returns for You season 5, he was a powerful character in the first season who added some complexity to Joe's gruesome and gripping character arc.
