Ys 10: Nordics features some of the series's best and most fleshed-out character development. The character interactions in the Ys series have evolved thanks to the inclusion of building affinity with the party and crew members. Raising affinity with certain characters also unlocks special stories called 'Interludes'. The affinity mechanic will become available at the end of Chapter 2, when Adol gets named 'Adol the Red' and becomes Karja's Shield Brother. Checking A Character's Affinity In Ys 10: Nordics

When Adol meets important party members and allies relevant to the story, you can raise his affinity with them to gain rewards and new cutscenes. Moreover, maxing out Affinity with all the characters in the Journal will unlock the 'Sandra's Socialite' trophy/achievement. The first character, Adol, will gain an increase in Affinity level, Karja. However, it's also good to keep checking Karja and Adol's friends and allies levels. To check a character's Affinity level use the following steps:

Press the menu button to open the Main Menu screen.
Open the Journal by pressing down on the D-Pad.
Select Adventure.
Then open the People menu.
You can then check the Affinity levels for each character and the character notes when important story events have occurred.

How To Raise A Character's Affinity In Ys 10: Nordics

Even though the first occurrence of raising Affinity happens at the end of Chapter 2, To increase affinity, Adol must find presents for his party members and allies which become available after escaping Termina Island. Once he has them, he can give the gifts to his friends on the ship. Once he locates a present, the game will instruct you on whom to deliver it to while piloting the ship. Open the Action menu, select the Present Icon, and select the character it's meant for.
