The Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom allow players to share items with one another through their "item boxes." This feature is directly connected to Zelda Notes, a service that is accessed through the Nintendo Switch App, and it may be of interest to players who want to exchange bows, weapons, shields, and materials. This guide is written with those players in mind, and it will help them start sharing items in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Players can earn medals in Zelda Notes by making item box deposits, which provides some additional incentive to engage with the feature.

How To Get A Horse In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Horses are one of the easiest ways of getting around in Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom; here's how to get one.

Item Sharing Requirements for Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom

There are a few requirements for sharing items in Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, and they are as follows:

  • Owning a Switch 2 Edition of the game. Indeed, it is not possible to share items through the original Switch versions of these titles, and players must either purchase a digital or physical copy of the relevant Switch 2 Edition or upgrade the Zelda game to a Switch 2 Edition (through the eShop) if they already own an original Switch copy.
  • Having access to a smart device with the Nintendo Switch App.
  • Being able to play the relevant Zelda game while the Nintendo Switch 2 console is connected to the internet.

How to Share Items With Friends in Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom

Set Up Zelda Notes

After a player has confirmed that they meet all the requirements for item sharing, they will need to set up Zelda Notes. As previously mentioned, this is a service that is accessed through the Nintendo Switch App, which is available through the App Store and Google Play, and this guide to using Zelda Notes details that process.

Deposit Items in BotW & TotK

Once the Zelda Notes service is set, players are ready to start depositing bows, shields, weapons, and materials into their item box. Here is how that is done:

  1. In the Zelda game, open your inventory (press "+").
  2. Navigate to the Key Items tab.
  3. Select the Item Sharing icon in the bottom-right corner of Key Items, and choose "Deposit."
  4. Select the items to send to the Item Box and confirm the deposit (press "+").

Players can now open Zelda Notes via the Nintendo Switch App on their smart device. Players can then select the Item Sharing icon, and they will find that the items that they deposited appear in their item box.

The item box can hold 100 items at a time.

Share Your Item Box in Zelda Notes

At this point, players can start sharing their item box with others, allowing them to withdraw items from it or deposit items into it. This is how that sharing is done:

  1. In Zelda Notes' Item Sharing feature, click on the gear icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Enable item box sharing.
  3. Click "Share Your QR Code" to generate a code for your item box.
  4. Share the code with the person who is to be given access to your item box.
  5. That person should navigate to Item Sharing Settings (using the aforementioned gear icon) in their own Zelda Notes, click "Add another user's item box using a QR code," and use the code that they received.

Gifting & Withdrawing in Zelda Notes

Once a player has added another user's item box, they can send their own items to that box using "Gift," or they can take items out of it using "Withdraw." To send an item to another player's box, players should take these actions:

  1. Open Zelda Notes' Item Sharing feature.
  2. Select the item that is to be given from within your own item box.
  3. Click on "Gift" at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Select the player who is to receive the item and "give" it.

And to withdraw an item, players should:

  1. Open Zelda Notes' Item Sharing feature.
  2. Select a box that they have added.
  3. Click on the item that is of interest.
  4. Click on "Withdraw" at the bottom of the screen.

Receive Items in BotW & TotK

When a player finally has an item in their item box that they would like to use in-game, they should select it in Zelda Notes and choose "Send to Game" at the bottom. Players should then return to either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom and take these actions:

  1. Open your inventory (press "+").
  2. Navigate to the Key Items tab.
  3. Select the Item Sharing icon in the bottom-right corner of Key Items, and choose "Withdraw."

Some items will be altered or converted into rupees when transferred in this fashion. It is also important to note that once an item has been transferred, it cannot be transferred again.
