In Breath Of The Wild, Link must scale various massive towers and place the Sheikah Slate in the Guidance Stone to unlock sections of the map. Most of these require a reasonably straightforward upward climb, but Akkala Tower in the northeast corner of the map poses more of a challenge. This guide will outline all the steps the player needs to take to climb Akkala Tower in Breath Of The Wild.
Prepare For The Cold
Despite its proximity to Death Mountain, Akkala Tower is cold enough to require some form of protection, so Link doesn't take cold damage. There are a few ways to achieve this:
- The first and most reliable way is to wear a Warm Doublet. These can be purchased from Hateno Village for 80 Rupees or gained as a reward for completing the Old Man's Forgotten Recipe quest on the Great Plateau in the early game.
- Players can also cook recipes that grant cold resistance. The most efficient recipe is the Spicy Fruit and Mushroom Mix which gives 12 minutes and 30 seconds of mid-level cold resistance and requires one sunshroom and four spicy peppers.
Find And Shoot The Malice
Circling the base of Akkala Tower, players should come across an eye within the pools of malice. Players will want to take out the mobs surrounding the area for a better shot. Shoot the eye with an arrow to disperse the malice, and a metal beam will drop, allowing Link to cross into the tower through the window the eye was previously in and climb up the tower onto a red-carpeted area.
Use Magnesis To Lift The Beam
The area that Link is in should now overlook the metal beam that was previously used to cross. Use the Magnesis Rune to pick up the metal beam and align the edge with the pool of malice that encompasses the tower ledge. Drop it there, and Link will have safe passage to the rest of the tower.
Climb The Tower
Now all the player needs to do is cross the beam and climb the tower as usual. Akkala Tower unlocks a large map area, including Death Mountain, the Akkala Highlands, and the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.
