The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, the next installment in the beloved adventure franchise, will seemingly feature Amiibo support. Several mainline entries that preceded The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, such as Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild, utilized the unique toys-to-life system as well.

Unveiled during the most recent Nintendo Direct, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is an upcoming Switch game that is set to release on September 26. Unlike most titles in the series, this new action-adventure experience will give players the rare chance to play as the franchise's titular princess instead of recurring protagonist Link, who is often recognized as one of the most iconic Nintendo characters of all time. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is similar to the Link's Awakening remake from 2019 in terms of visual style, and it seemingly has one more thing in common with the latter game.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is Taking a Page Out of Pokemon's Playbook

The upcoming Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom features an innovative new gameplay mechanic that takes a page out of Pokemon's playbook.

The product page for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on Nintendo's website featured an Amiibo logo, suggesting that the title will support Nintendo's toys-to-life platform. Amiibos, which can come in the form of a figurine or a card, use the near field communication (NFC) wireless standard to transfer data in and out of games. These can be used directly with the Switch, Wii U, and New Nintendo 3DS as the aforementioned consoles all have built-in NFC readers.

Around 77 million Amiibos had been sold as of September 2022, Nintendo revealed in a financial report, and new models continue to be released regularly. An Amiibo based on Kingdom Hearts' Sora that was released in February allows Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players to train the Keyblade wielder for use in local and online multiplayer modes.

Meanwhile, Amiibos unlocked special chambers in the Link's Awakening remake or rewarded players with additional content that could be used to customize dungeons. Both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom also made use of Amiibos, with supported collectibles providing a variety of in-game items. The series' last Amiibo release, a figurine of Tears of the Kingdom's Zelda, came out in November.

Princess Zelda has been a playable character in several of the franchise's past games, including Hyrule Warriors, Spirit Tracks, and The Wand of Gamelon. In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, the Hylian royal will set out to save Link and her kingdom of Hyrule with the help of the magical Tri Rod.

Team up with the ethereal creature Tri and use the Tri Rod to create “echoes,” which are imitations of things you find in the environment—then recreate those echoes whenever you like to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. Use echoes like water blocks to reach new heights, make bridges out of old beds, throw rocks at foes, or find your own combination of echoes to do things your way. You can even make echoes of monsters to fight at your side in combat!
