The Legend of Zelda live-action movie has reportedly set its sights on one actor for the role of Princess Zelda, and it’s a fan cast come true in the eyes of gamers. Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise took flight in 1986 and has since produced over 20 main entries in its video game portfolio, alongside an animated series and a manga adaptation. The latest game, Echoes of Wisdom, invited fans to play Princess Zelda as the main playable character in her own game for the first time.

The Legend of Zelda movie is scheduled to begin principal photography in New Zealand around November 2025, with plans to be wrapped by April 2026. Back in March, The Legend of Zelda movie received an official release date, locking in a 2027 debut, which gave the adaptation a major step into reality after rumors of a live-action project had been churning in the rumor mill for years.

Schafer is known for her roles in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Neon’s 2024 horror Cuckoo, but she’s most notably recognized for her fantastic performance in HBO’s Euphoria series. Considering the numerous games produced under the IP and their popularity, it’s expected that the live-action endeavor will offer several films. The question now is: What story will the film adapt? The foundation may include the recurring narrative of Link tasked to save Hyrule and Princess Zelda from Ganondorf’s evil agency, or perhaps the team will offer something more original while remaining loyal to Nintendo’s source material.
