Summary

  • Tears of The Kingdom's Fuse ability brings new dynamics to Ocarina of Time, enhancing gameplay with unique features like rocket jumping.
  • Modder notCHase showcases creative weapon fusions in Ocarina of Time, adding fun and novelty without the constraints of Tears of the Kingdom.

It appears that one clever modder has figured out a way to implement Tears of The Kingdom's fuse ability in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Of all the games in The Legend of Zelda franchise, Ocarina of Time is one that plenty seem to get endless mileage out of in terms of story enjoyment as well as sheer replayability. Of course, the same can be said about Tears of The Kingdom, despite any complaints fans may have had about its story.

The distinguishing feature of Tears of the Kingdom is by and large considered to be the arm Link borrows from Rauru. It unlocks an entirely new dimension of abilities within the world that seemed to innovate around and rectify any flaws that were present in Breath of The Wild, or at least things that may have been treated as tedious during a second playthrough adventure. The introduction of the arm-abilities did seem to create a desire for more use cases outside of Tears of The Kingdom, though.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time Mod Lets Link Borrow Powerful Attack from Super Smash Bros. Colleague

A Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time mod brings into the game a move from one of Link's Super Smash Bros colleagues, and it's a game changer.

Here, a developer known as notCHase on YouTube was able to toss Tears of The Kingdom's Fuse ability into Ocarina of Time. In a video, they show off the new feature, using Gossip Stones to rocket jump and attaching signs to shields. The point of something like item fusion seems to be novelty when the original title's durability mechanic is gone, but fun can be as good a reason as any, especially within a mod.

Modder Adds Fuse to Ocarina of Time

Other sections of this video show off creative weapon combinations, such as fusing a Freezard to the Kokiri Sword and using its ice attributes against other enemies. Making sure this type of logic is consistent and not game-breaking likely took plenty of effort, which is commendable on its own, but having it look good enough to show off in a mod like this is a step further. This seems like something within notCHase's capabilities though. They have other mods on their channel, like one that gives Link the Recall ability from Tears of The Kingdom, as well as one that gives him Breath of the Wild's Stasis ability.

Although this is just a mod in Ship of Harkinian, Ocarina of Time's unofficial open source PC port, this style of creativity seems to be present with official Nintendo developers as well. It looks like their answer to these potentially game-breaking abilities is creating moldable game worlds that allow freedom when it comes to problem-solving. This appears to be the philosophy in use with the upcoming Legend of Zelda game Echoes of Wisdom, but fans can make sure of that when it releases on September 26.
