Nintendo is planning several upgrades for both Zelda titles as they will be released for the Switch 2, and fans are excited about the inclusion of achievements in these legendary games.

The Switch 2 editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were announced during the recent Nintendo Direct dedicated to the company's upcoming console. It was revealed that the Switch 2 would cost $449.99 and be released on June 5, sooner than many in the community had expected.

During the event, it was also revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom would get achievements on the Switch 2, as long as gamers use the Nintendo Switch App. According to Nintendo, the app will track achievements, allowing gamers to earn in-app medals based on their gameplay, such as the number of chests opened, the amount of Rupees earned, and more. In the Achievements section of the app, categories like "Quests and Adventures Cleared," "Shrines of Light Cleared," and "Locations Visited" can be seen as achievements directly linked to the player’s progression in their adventure.

Fortunately, this is not the only useful upgrade that Switch 2 players will have while playing Zelda games using the Nintendo Switch App. Other important improvements include the Zelda Notes feature, which can be used to improve navigation during gameplay, including tips for finding Shrines, Koroks, or other hidden items. Additionally, the Voice Memories section will expand the Legend of Zelda's lore as players explore, and features like the Autobuild Sharing tool will allow gamers to share their creations with others. While all of these features require a smartphone with an app and are entirely optional, they’re a unique way to make the experience feel fresh, especially for people playing for the second time.

Both Zelda games will be launch titles for the Switch 2. It’s not surprising to see Nintendo giving so much attention to its Zelda games on the upcoming console, as they have been very successful. Breath of the Wild has sold over 34 million copies to date. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold over 21.5 million units, establishing itself as another of Nintendo's biggest hits.

Zelda fans will also get a new game for the Switch 2 called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. This is an upcoming hack-and-slash title that will work as a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom, and it will be released in Winter 2025.
