Tears of the Kingdom allows players to view a series of Character Profiles on the Purah Pad. While they're mostly a fun gimmick, reading a Character Profile may give a hint as to what players need to do to advance specific quest lines. Some characters will have their art updated to accommodate wherever Link may be in the playthrough.

Story-important characters, such as Princess Zelda, will be unlocked without having to do anything. Characters found in side quests, such as Hestu, will require Link to seek them out in order to register their profile. There are 22 Character Profiles in all, and the only way to get every last one of them is to complete Tears of the Kingdom's main quest.

How to Unlock Character Profiles

Players will get the Purah Pad during the "tutorial" on the Great Sky Island. Once they're able to return to Hyrule, they'll be directed to Lookout Landing. In doing this, they'll soon get the Paraglider from Purah, and the Character Profiles menu by speaking to Josha.

Character Profiles can be viewed by doing the following:

  • Open the map with (-).
  • Tab to the Character Profiles with L-button.

Princess Zelda, Purah, and Rauru will be added as soon as Link gains access to the Character Profiles. Other examples of characters that will unlock during main story quests are Tulin, Yunobo, Sidon, and Riju. Characters that aren't plot-important but play a minor role in the "Regional Phenomena" quests will also have a profile.

Every Character Profile & How to Get Them

Character Profiles are unlocked by "meeting" specific characters. As stated, some are unlocked as players progress through the main questlines (ex: "Tulin of Rito Village," "Yunobo of Goron City"). Others will be locked behind side quests and side adventures. Thus, they can be missed completely if players are neglecting to do any of Tears of the Kingdom's side content.

Unlike the other profiles, Ganondorf's Character Profile is unlocked after players have beaten TotK for the first time. If players have been collecting Character Profiles during their playthrough, then his profile should be the last one to obtain.

With 22 Character Profiles, here's how players can go about obtaining each one:
