In The Legend of Zelda series Link has access to a number of different weapons, a trend that continues with Tears of the Kingdom. There are 6 different weapon types, and one of those weapon types is spears. Spears are bladed weapons that can strike and attack enemies at a longer distance than most swords.

Depending on the spear, it can unleash a flurry of attacks faster than a sword... But it is a two-handed weapon, meaning Link won't be able to hold his shield and the spear simultaneously. Tears of the Kingdom includes almost all the same spears that were in Breath of the Wild, with a few new additions from the Zonai. The ability to fuse weapons allows all spears and weapons to be stronger than they are, but there are certain spears that are strong even at base level.

Updated on September 11, 2023, by Ritwik Mitra: There are three kinds of melee weapons that players can use to wreak havoc in Tears of the Kingdom, with spears being a great choice for players who want to maintain their distance and attack enemies without jeopardizing their own safety. There is a wealth of these long-ranged weapons that players can find in the game, although it's important to fuse powerful materials with these weapons to make the most of their powers and completely destroy any enemy who is too overzealous in their attempts to damage Link.

9 Knight's Halberd

The Knight's Halberd in Tears of the Kingdom

As players get more powerful over the course of their playthrough in Tears of the Kingdom, they'll eventually come across the Knight's Halberd. This decent spear boasts great range and a modest attack power of 6 that can be bolstered with a powerful fuse item.

The power of the Knight's Halberd increases if Link is down to his last heart, but this is a situation that players don't want to put themselves in, to begin with! However, there's no denying that this weapon is still great for players who want to gain an edge on their opponents, with the fast attacks of a spear allowing players to down enemies before they even have time to blink.

8 Gnarled Long Stick

Gnarled Long Stick in Tears of the Kingdom

The enemies in Tears of the Kingdom usually use sticks merged with certain materials to augment their damage, which can get really irritating after a point. After all, players can find these combat encounters to be a bit stale if the weapons being used by their enemies are subpar... But these players have clearly not fought the tougher variants of Link's foes.

These enemies carry a wealth of powerful weapons to even the odds and bring the pain to Link, with the Gnarled Long Stick being especially tough despite seeming like another regular stick. The wood of this weapon is purple in color and can hit for some serious damage, making it a great base for a weapon fusion or a tool to be used to augment the attacks of the other blades that Link has in his arsenal.

7 Gerudo Spear

A Gerudo Spear fused with a toy in the inventory

Fusing is a huge part of Tears of the Kingdom, with players being encouraged to take reliable weapons as a base and use high-level materials to increase the attack power of the weapon they're currently wielding. This is precisely why the Gerudo Spear is one of the best weapons that players can use in the game, with the Strong Fusion ability letting players wallop enemies to kingdom come!

The Gerudo Spear can annihilate enemies with an optimal fusion, making it a weapon that players should definitely seek out if they wish to maximize their damage potential in the game. As long as players use this weapon properly, most enemies will be toast with a single poke of this powerful weapon!

6 Mighty Zonaite Spear

The mighty zonaite spear is located in Lomei Castle

Zonaite weapons are a new class of weapons that appears in Tears of the Kingdom. While all metal weapons on the surface are decayed, Zoniate weapons are a more commonly found, strong weapon that a player won't have to use fusion to make use of. The Mighty Zonaite Spear can be found inside Lomei Castle on the Sky Islands, or one can be dropped by Zonai Construct enemies after defeating them.

The Mighty Zonaite Spear has a base attack of about 8, but what makes this spear one of the best in the game is its passive ability, Zonaite-Powered. Weapons with this passive ability can have their attack power increased when fused with Zonai devices. Fusing it with one of the Elemental Emitters or the Beam Emitter or Cannon will make the Mighty Zonaite Spear a double threat for any of Link's enemies.

5 Forest Dweller's Spear

Players can travel through the Minshi Woods Chasm to get to the Hyrule Forest and claim the Forest Dweller's Spear.

The Great Hyrule Forest was a difficult area to get into in Breath of the Wild, and it's only become more difficult in Tears of the Kingdom. Going through the Lost Woods is the tried and true method, though, for players who are more daring, they can find a way to Great Hyrule Forest through the Minshi Woods Chasm and travel through the Depths. Make sure to have the Flame Guard Armor equipped when using this travel route. Whatever way players choose to make it to Great Hyrule Forest, one of their rewards will be the Forest Dweller's Spear.

While it has a base damage of 13, which is pretty average, its passive ability, Fuse Recycling, makes it a weapon worth getting. Fuse Recycling means that the material used with the weapon can be used over and over again without it being destroyed. This means the Forest Dweller Spear is one of the best versatile weapons to have, as players can customize it to their needs.

4 Royal Halberd

The Royal Halberd can be found in Hyrule Castle

The ornate Royal Halberd was once the weapon of knights that guarded the most critical areas of the Castle. The Royal Halberd can usually be found in two different areas: one is within Hyrule Castle, and the other is in the East Necluda, so it's a good idea to be on the lookout for one when heading to Hateno Village.

It has a base attack of 15 and the passive ability Improved Flurry Rush. Link can perform Flurry Rush after a perfectly time dodge and a follow-up attack. Time slows down, and it allows Link to get in as many hits as possible before the enemy can react. A normal Flurry Rush is strong, so an Improved Flurry Rush is a very powerful thing to possess.

3 Lightscale Trident

Dento will craft the Lightscale Trident for players

The Lightscale Trident is a rare weapon that most fans of Breath of the Wild will recognize. It's a Zora-made weapon that once belonged to Princess Mipha. The weapon that Sidon wields is a replica of his beloved Sister's Lightscale Trident. At its base level, it has an attack power of 22. The only way to get the Lightscale Trident is to have it Dento craft it for Link.

But, players will have to complete the Sidon of the Zora Main Story Quest first and clear the Water Temple. Once these two things are done, players will be able to ask Dento to craft the Lightscale Trident for them. It needs 5 flint, 3 diamonds, and a Zora Spear. The Lightscale Trident has the passive ability Water Warrior, which means its attack power increases when it gets wet.

2 Royal Guard's Spear

The Royal Guard's Spear can be found in Hyrule Castle

The Royal Guard's Spear is a rare item that was also in Breath in the Wild. It's part of the Royal Guard set along with the Royal Guard Armor that's made up of the Royal Guard Cap, Uniform, and Boots. The armor set, along with the spear, can be found within Hyrule Castle. At its base level, the Royal Guard Spear has an attack of 18 and has the passive ability Breaking Point.

A weapon with Breaking Point will have its damage increased when it's close to breaking. It has low durability, and with its passive ability, it won't take long for the spear to become as strong as it can be, but it also means that players will have to grab another weapon sooner.

1 Gloom Spear

Players must defeat a Phantom Ganon to claim Gloom Spear

The Gloom Spear is by far the strongest spear in Tears of the Kingdom. It's a rare item that can only be found in certain locations where Phantom Ganon appears, and the player must defeat him in order to get it. The Gloom Spear is part of a Gloom Weapon set that includes a Gloom Sword and a Gloom Club.

The Gloom Spear allows Phantom Ganon to move quicker and deliver a flurry of strikes faster than he can with either the Gloom Sword or the Gloom Spear. The Gloom Spear has a base attack of 30, so it's a must-have weapon for anyone who's looking for a powerful spear. Its drawback is that it inflicts Link with Gloom with its passive ability Gloom Toll. Players can remove Gloom by eating meals with Sundelions as an ingredient. The more Sundelions used, the more Gloom will be removed.
