A new update to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's official page has seemingly revealed a change in the game's file size, just weeks before its expected launch. The newest entry in the storied Zelda franchise has been one of the most highly-anticipated games on the Switch since it was first teased in 2019. In recent months, the game has received numerous trailers, both revealing new mechanics like Fuse and changes to Hyrule. Now, more detailed information about the game's download has been revealed.
Trailers and previews for the game have already revealed plenty of new features coming with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Alongside the previously mentioned Fuse, Tears of the Kingdom will feature new tools for traversing the terrain suspended in the skies of Hyrule. A recent preview event also seemingly teased the return of a fan-favorite feature from past games with dungeons set to return after being largely absent in Breath of the Wild. Now, fans have a better idea of how much space Tears of the Kingdom will need.
An update to Tears of the Kingdom's page on Nintendo's website shows the surprise change to the game's file size. Whereas Tears of the Kingdom was previously believed to be 18 GB, new listings for the game both on the official website and the eShop place the game at 15.9 GB. The game does still register at a larger file size than its predecessor with Zelda: Breath of the Wild requiring 14.4 GB of storage space. The smaller file size for Tears of the Kingdom still holds the record for Nintendo's largest first-party game on the Switch.
While Tears of the Kingdom is not set to officially debut until mid-May, rumors have already reported physical copies of the game may have been found. Several Zelda fans have already posted to social media claiming to have received their copies of Tears of the Kingdom early, with some of the game's Collector's Editions even surfacing. The accidental early shipments would not be the first time a similar issue has plagued Nintendo, with high-profile games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Splatoon 3 leaking early copies.
With just under two weeks remaining until Tears of the Kingdom's launch, many are already placing the game as an early frontrunner for Game of the Year. Nintendo has begun to tease elements of Tears of the Kingdom's early story, revealing the game's beginning with Link on the sky islands hovering above Hyrule. Tears of the Kingdom already has multiple awards under its belt, including Most Anticipated Game at the 2022 Game Awards. Excitement is at a fever pitch with the newest Zelda adventure close at hand.
