Nintendo has announced that it will be giving out more free items for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom after the game’s latest update. This continues the company’s streak of giving out free in-game items after each software update, and this time, Tears of the Kingdom fans can fuse these items together to create an interesting weapon.
So far this year, Nintendo has given out free items for Tears of the Kingdom to players each time the game gets a software update. Since the game’s successful launch, Nintendo has given out items like the Traveler’s Sword and the Soldier’s Shield, items to cook with like Lizalfos Tails and Golden Apples, and random items like a Zonai Cart.
Now that the 1.2.1 update for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has officially been released, players can redeem an Opal and a Magic Rod through Nintendo Switch’s News Channel. To do so, players will have to select the News icon on their Home Screen, scroll to the news story “Gems - Not Just a Pretty Facet,” and then click the “Play Now” button within the article. After that, players simply need to boot up the game, load their file, and receive their free items.
Opals in Tears of the Kingdom are precious stones that contain the power of water. Opals can be found by mining the Ore Deposits often found in caves and around mountains. When sold, Opals can net players 30 Rupees a piece.
A Magic Rod in Tears of the Kingdom can be fused with specific gemstones to make a powerful weapon. Fusing a Topaz to a Magic Rod will give it the power of electricity, a Ruby will give it the power of fire, a Sapphire the power of Ice, and an Opal the power of water. Players can earn a Magic Rod by defeating a Wizzrobe, and they can also purchase this item from the Bargainer Statues in the Depths for 100 Poes each.
Water-based weapons in Tears of the Kingdom are not very useful when it comes to fighting most enemies. However, water weapons have a couple of niche purposes. They can be used to create paths in Lava for Link to traverse, saving the player from having to waste their Splash Fruit. Water weapons can also be used to defeat flame-based enemies such as Fire Chu-Chus, Fire Like’s, and the Igneous Talus.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
