Midna's Helmet was a DLC-exclusive head piece in Breath of the Wild, but it would seem that it's been added to Tears of the Kingdom's base game. Players returning to its resting place in the Sage Temple Ruins on Hyrule's Surface are in for disappointment. While Midna's Helmet does exist, its location has been moved.

Link can find Midna's Helmet in the Chasm on Eventide Island in Tears of the Kingdom. Chasms in general are dangerous areas, but players will want to have an inventory well-stocked with elemental materials as well as their best armor, weapons, and at full HP. Getting Midna's Helmet will involve battling a horde of gloom-enhanced enemies.

How to Get to Eventide Island in TotK

Players are going to need to sail out or fly over to Eventide Island. The best place to leave from is Lurelin Village (2829, -3341, 0042). Put together a makeshift glider with a Zonai Wing, fans, and Energy Cells from high up (on one of the surrounding cliffs). Alternatively, players can create a raft using the wood, fans, and steering wheel from Lurelin Village (near the pirate ship).

If this is players' first time going to Lurelin Village, then it will be overrun with monsters. It's recommended to clear them out first.

Players will want to head for the coordinates: 4513, -3471, 0002. These are actually the coordinates for the Eventide Island Chasm. If players want to unlock a warp spot for Eventide Island, then they should go behind Koholit Rock to the Eventide Island Cave located at the back. There are more monsters here, but there's also the Shrine (Marari-In Shrine) at the very back of the cave.

There are even more monsters on Eventide Island, but luckily, the Chasm is right along the shore. Players may want to gather Ice Fruit or Fire Fruit from the monster fort near Toronbo Beach. These will come in handy when Link dives below the surface.

There's also a Cooking Pot near the tent on the shore. It's a good idea to cook up sunny veggie porridge if players have the ingredients (ie: Sundelion, Hyrule Herb, Fresh Milk, Hylian Rice). This'll restore any of Link's permanent hearts if he touches any of the gloom in the Eventide Island Chasm.

Dive into the Eventide Island Chasm and immediately fire a Brightbloom Seed. Midna's Helmet is located in a gloom-locked chest inside the Lone Island Coliseum (4562, -3620, -0471). Climb the walls of the Coliseum, and approach the chest. The way out will immediately close and Link will then have to fight waves of Bokoblins.

If players want to, they can activate the Ni-Iraram Lightroom at 4630, -3711, -0506. However, since activating Lightroots restores any hearts Link lost from Gloom, players may want to clear out the coliseum first and recover their lost hearts afterwards.

Lone Island Coliseum Monsters

There are a total of five waves of enemies. If players didn't stock up on materials that can be fused to arrows (ex: Ice Fruit or Dazzlefruit), then this might be more challenging. If players are losing health, then climb up the walls and into one of the balconies and snipe them from above.

Save elemental arrows/bomb flower arrows for the later waves. The bokoblins in the first two waves can be taken out with regular arrows or a melee weapon.

Avoid taking too much damage from Bokoblins. If they hit Link, he'll immediately lose a permanent heart. This includes the rocks that Bokoblins will toss at Link if he's climbing.

Alternatively, those that have completed all the Temples and gained the help of the Champions (ie: Tulin, Sidon, Yunobo, Riju) can use their special abilities in battle and make the fight much easier.

Wave 1

  • Enemies: Regular/Red Bokoblins (x2)
  • Strategy: Two of the Bokoblins have melee weapons while the other will fire at Link with fire arrows. Take out the archer first because fire damage can chip away at Link's health very quickly. Add gloom to the mix, and this gets even more complicated. If Link is quick enough, he can headshot all the Bokoblins in Wave 1 if he has a powerful bow equipped.

Wave 2

  • Enemies: Blue Bokoblins (x3)
  • Strategy: Repeat the same strategy as with Wave 1, but be warned that these guys have more HP than the regulars. Players should still hold off on using any Bomb Flowers. It wouldn't do to lose too much HP here, so if players find themselves on the losing end, then they should eat gloom-healing meals (sunny veggie porridge, or anything cooked with Sundelion) or try to get into the balconies and take them out with arrows.

Wave 3

  • Enemies: Black Bokoblin (x2)
  • Strategy: Things start to get trickier with this wave. The Bokoblins in Wave 3 are all equipped with powerful weapons. If players have any Shock Fruit, they can fire one at the Bokoblins to make them drop their weapons and make the fight a little easier. If not, then try to defeat one at a time. Time Link's dodges and parries to trigger Flurry Rush.

Wave 4

  • Enemies: Silver Bokoblin (x1)
  • Strategy: There's only one Bokoblin this time, but it's a Silver, which means powerful weapons and a ton of HP. Now's a good time to start using Ice Fruit to freeze it in place before attacking. The Silver Bokoblin doesn't have a bow, but getting hit by his one-handed weapon is enhanced with electricity. If Link gets hit by the Silver Bokoblin, he'll lose permanent hearts and drop his weapon. If players have equipped Link with the Thunder Helm or a level-2 Desert Voe Set, then he can shrug off the effects of shock with no issue.

Wave 5

  • Enemies: Bokoblin (x1), Blue Bokoblin (x1), Black Bokoblin (x1), Silver Bokoblin (x1)
  • Strategy: The weakest Bokoblin (the red one) fires arrows, so Link should kill this one first with an arrow of his own. The three remaining Bokoblins will all rush Link, which makes it harder to pick them off one at a time. The Blue Bokoblin is the second weakest, but it's recommended to use Shock Fruits or even Dazzlefruit to stun them. Dazzlefruit won't make them drop their weapons, but it will keep them dazed long enough for Link to attack or to put some distance between them.
    • Try to save the Silver Bokoblin for last since it has the most HP.
    • If players haven't used any, now's a good time to start Fusing bomb flowers to arrows and firing them at the mob.

If Link manages to survive, the gate to the Coliseum will open, and the gloom will disappear from the chest. Inside is Midna's Helmet, a very useful headpiece when exploring The Depths. Warp out of here (once/if the Lightroom is activated) and put this place behind.

Midna's Helmet Defense & Abilities

legend of zelda tears of the kingdom midna's helmet abilities

Midna's Helmet has a base defese of 7. Just like in Breath of the Wild, it can't be enhanced. Its effect/ability has changed from Guardian Resistance to Gloom Resistance. This will protect Link a little from gloom whether it's gloom "puddles" or gloom-infested enemies. Until players obtain better armor, Midna's Helmet is ideal for doing any side quests that involve the Chasms.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for Nintendo Switch.
