As most have probably figured out, armor in Tears of the Kingdom will increase Link's defense. At a later point in the campaign, players have the potential to enhance some of their power. There are various armor pieces that have a bonus effect, making them worth the trouble of upgrading, but not everything that Link can wear is part of an Armor Set.

The Ruby Circlet is a "head accessory" that provides resistance from the cold. It can be too expensive for those just starting their Tears of the Kingdom playthrough, so it may be better to pick up at the halfway point of the campaign.

Ruby Circlet Location (Before Lightning Temple)

The Ruby Circlet can be bought from the Startlit Memories jewelry store in Gerudo Town (-3875, -2864, 0043), but the location of the store will depend on the player's progression in the "Riju of Gerudo Town" main quest. If this is Link's first time visiting Gerudo Town, then the Starlight Memories store will be in the Gerudo Town Shelter.

To reach the shelter, players will need to enter the Gerudo Town's waterway:

Upon entering from the north gate, go to the left around coordinates -3792, 2903, 0043. Link can enter the waterway from here by jumping down. There will be a breakable wall to the left, but ignore that for now.
Go straight, and eventually Link will see a letter in a bottle floating downstream.
Follow the letters, as more will float towards Link, and they'll lead to an opening in the ceiling with a rope. Use the Ascend Ability to break into the Gerudo Town shelter.

Nearby is a Gerudo merchant standing near three accessories: Amber Earrings, Sapphire Circlet, and a Ruby Circlet. The Ruby Circlet sells for 1300 Rupees. Trying to purchase any of the accessories or speaking to the merchant will also unlock "The Missing Owner" side quest. However, it's easier to complete this after the Lightning Temple.

Ruby Circlet Location (After Lightning Temple)

If players have already cleared the "Riju of Gerudo Town" main quest, then Gerudo Town will be restored, and all the shops in the shelter will be moved back to their regular places. This includes Starlight Memories. From the north gate of Gerudo Town, the store will be on the right (-3792, 2903, 0043).

There will be three other accessories in-stock now that the desert storm has been cleared over the Gerudo Region. If players still want the Ruby Circlet, they can buy it here for 1300 Rupees, the same price it was listed in the shelter.

How to Upgrade the Ruby Circlet

The Ruby Circlet can be upgraded by a Great Fairy. There are four Great Fairies in Tears of the Kingdom, and players will need to complete the "Serenade to a Great Fairy" side adventure to start the progress of unlocking armor upgrades. This can be done by speaking to Traysi at the Lucky Clover Gazette (near the bridge leading to Rito Village), and then traveling to Woodland Stable. From there, speak to Penn and Mastro to start the "Sereande to a Great Fairy."

Although it's not part of an armor set, the Ruby Circlet will give Link one level of Cold Resistance. This makes it good to wear in areas with lower temperatures. The Ruby Circlet requires the following materials to upgrade:

Ruby Ore can be farmed from Rare Ore Deposits; Flint can be farmed from any type of Ore Deposit. The material that players might have problems with farming are the Star Fragments. These are pale comets that will occasionally crash into The Surface at night. However, if players are diving from Skyview Towers or Sky Islands, there's a chance a Star Fragment will streak by Link mid-dive. Link can catch these while falling if players are fast enough. Speed-up Link's free-fall by holding down R-button to Dive.

Star Fragment in itself is rare, and it's used for upgrading other jewelry accessories (such as the Diamond Circlet) as well as most cameo armor sets (ex: Hero of Twilight Armor Set). Thus, it may be better to hold off on upgrading the Ruby Circlet to level 3-4 until players have upgraded their other armor first.

Best Armor Combinations for Ruby Circlet

Before upgrades, the Ruby Circlet has a defense of 3. As such, it may be "weaker" than Link's other cold-resistant armor if players have started upgrading them. The circlet essentially functions the same as the Snowquill Headdress. The difference here is that the Ruby Circlet, when worn with the Snowquill Trousers or Snowquill Tunic, won't generate a Set Bonus.

However, if players feel more comfortable wearing their stronger armor but need cold resistance, then they can equip the circlet with something like the Trousers of the Wild and Champion's Leathers. Another combo is the Ruby Circlet, a tunic of the player's choice, and the Snow Boots.
