Jewelry accessories in Tears of the Kingdom function the same as "head armor," like helmets or masks. As such, Link can't wear earrings/circlets and a helmet simultaneously. Like most jewelry in real life, the jewelry found in Hyrule can be quite expensive.
Gems in Tears of the Kingdom can generate different effects when Fused to a weapon or arrows. Certain armor have gems built into them, which grants the armor itself protection against the heat, cold, or even resistance to electricity. While not a part of an Armor Set, the Topaz Earrings will grant
Shock Resistance, potentially making them a worthwhile purchase for TotK players that want to brave fierce thunderstorms.
Topaz Earrings Location
Topaz Earrings can be bought from the Starlight Memories (-3792, 2903, 0043) jewelry shop in Gerudo Town (-3875, -2864, 0043). Gerudo Town is located in the appropriately-named Gerudo Wasteland, which is located in the far southwest region of Hyrule (on The Surface). The quickest way for players to reach Gerudo Town is by taking the southwest path from Kara Kara Bazaar.
If this is Link's first time visiting Gerudo Town, then there will be an endless desert storm sweeping through the Gerudo Region. Gerudo Town itself will be completely abandoned and destroyed with its inhabitants staying in the Gerudo Shelter underground. While players can buy jewelry from the Starlight Memories store in the Shelter, the Topaz Earrings won't restock until players have completed the main quest: "Riju of Gerudo Town."
Therefore, if players want the Topaz Earrings, it's important to take care of the Gerudo Arc and clean out the scourge of the Lightning Temple as soon as possible. Afterward, the Starlight Memories vendor will return to the shop's original location (-3792, 2903, 0043) in Gerudo Town.
The Topaz Earrings cost 1200 Rupees and have a starting defense of 3. Depending on how far players are in their TotK campaign, they may already have better armor than the earrings.
How to Upgrade the Topaz Earrings (& Is It Worth It?)
Fortunately, Topaz Earrings can be upgraded. They offer a level 1 Shock Resistance. For those that do not know, Shock is what causes Link to drop his weapons when hit by electricity. This can be the electricity from a lightning strike, or the attacks from an Electric Lizalfos.
To upgrade the Topaz Earrings, players need to complete the "Serenade to a Great Fairy" at the Woodland Stable. This is one of the side adventures in the "Potential Princess Sightings!" side adventure at the Lucky Clover Gazette outside Rito Village. After completing "Serenade to a Great Fairy," the remaining three Great Fairy Fountains will be marked on Link's map. Like the first Great Fairy, these three also require steps to complete in order to unlock them.
Great Fairies will enable one level of armor upgrades. To be able to max out armor, players will need to "free" all four Great Fairies.

Where to Find Topaz Earrings Upgrade Materials
-
Topaz
: While they're not as common as Amber, Topaz drops from Rare Ore Deposits. They're more common than
Ruby,
Sapphire, and
Diamond. Players may also unearth a chunk of Topaz by looting treasure chests.
-
Flint
: A fairly common drop from Ore Deposits. Players should have little-to-no problem farming Flint. Ore Deposits will appear in caves or wells.
-
Star Fragment
: This material may be trickier for players to farm. They will occasionally crash into The Surface at night. If players are diving from Skyview Towers or Sky Islands, there's a chance that a Star Fragment will streak by them as they're falling. Link can speed up his dive to catch them by holding down R-button.
-
Star Fragments are used for upgrading other jewelry such as the
Diamond Circlet. However, they're also a prime material/ingredient for upgrading the amiibo armor (ex:
Sheik's Mask
) found in The Depths.

Because of the premium materials (ie: Star Fragments) for upgrading, players may want to hold off on upgrading the Topaz Earrings until after they've upgraded their other armor.
Armor Combinations for Topaz Earrings
Since they're not part of an Armor Set, wearing the Topaz Earrings will prevent Link from gaining a Set Bonus from his other equipped armor. However, this just means they can be paired up with other armor that have special effects.
Some combinations players may want to try are:
-
Charged Shirt
+
Charged Trousers
+
Topaz Earrings: Every piece of the Charged Armor will give Link the
Stormy Weather Attack. During a thunderstorm, Link's melee attacks will be charged with electricity. Since it's also dangerous to fight during a thunderstorm (especially when wearing metal), players can wear the Shock-resistant Topaz Earrings instead of the
Charged Headdress
so that they won't have to worry about getting zapped while fighting.
-
Champion's Leathers
+ Trousers (28 defense, max upgrade) + Topaz Earrings: Champion's Leathers will give Link 32 Defense when it's raised to level 4. There are several pairs of Trousers in TotK that give Link 28 Defense when they're at max level. Couple this with the Topaz Earrings (20 defense, max level) means Link can withstand some powerful attacks while having the jewelry's Shock Resistance effect.
