The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s devoted player base can now add “giant mechanical goose” to the ever-growing list of inspired battle mechs that have aided Link in combat thanks to the work of a Reddit user by the handle of Uoma_Never_Seen. They posted a video of this creation to r/HyruleEngineering, a subreddit devoted to showing off player creations in Tears of the Kingdom. For example, Uoma_Never_Seen’s goose is a bipedal, mechanical bird that can follow Link on its own or carry the hero of Hyrule on its back across either land or water.

Uoma_Never_Seen presented their awe-inspiring goose mech with a text narration describing how Link found his new “friend” one day, only to be met with tragedy when the goose’s wing was destroyed in battle. From that point on, the goose resided in a lake, where it carried Link in a small cockpit on its head like a self-propelled Tears of the Kingdom boat whenever the young hero came to visit. Uoma_Never_Seen credited another Reddit user named The_Janeway_Effect with providing a building tutorial for crafting walking mechs in Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has become a killer app for the Nintendo Switch almost immediately upon release, with its sales figures even rivaling last year’s massively successful Elden Ring. A big part of this success comes from Tears of the Kingdom’s surprisingly versatile crafting mechanics, which have allowed players to build all kinds of impressive and imaginative contraptions in the open world of Hyrule - including a giant mechanical goose to ferry Link across the lakes and seas along his path.
