A Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player has constructed an impressive self-propelled boat that runs on both water and land. Tears of the Kingdom expanded on the open-world framework of 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to provide players with fun distractions from Link’s main quest to save Hyrule, and the most noteworthy are his new Fuse and Ultrahand abilities. These extremely versatile powers allow Link to combine various building materials to create all manner of helpful tools and vehicles.
Naturally, fans have been using Tears of the Kingdom’s crafting mechanics and showing off their interesting creations on social media. The results have ranged from flying bombers and Transformers-style battle mechs to mobile homes for Link to hang up his Master Sword after a long hard day of questing. There seems to be no limit to what players can dream up using Tears of the Kingdom’s Fuse and Ultrahand powers, and new contraptions are cropping up nearly two months after the game launched to overwhelming success on the Nintendo Switch.
The latest player-built Tears of the Kingdom vehicle comes from Reddit user Shoe-Hat, who posted a video clip of their new creation to r/Zelda earlier this weekend. Using Link’s Autobuild skill, they outfit a dilapidated boat with various parts to create a self-propelling sea-craft. In addition to sailing the seas of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Shoe-Hat’s boat can take to dry land and attack enemies - either by running them over or blasting them with the automatic laser turrets that its creator installed on its bow.
Shoe-Hat’s self-propelling boat is impressive and serves as another shining example of how The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom allows players to create their own adventures by making vehicles and testing them out in the open world of Hyrule. This freedom is one of the many reasons that Tears of the Kingdom has become one of 2023’s biggest releases so far, and Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has hinted that the free-roaming and item-crafting format of the latest Zelda game could become the standard for the series going forward.
In the meantime, there seems to be no end to the constant wave of imaginative fan creations that emerge from Tears of the Kingdom's player base, such as Shoe-Hat's versatile watercraft. Be it on land or sea, this boat can carry Link across the realm of Hyrule and take care of any foes that come into his path thanks to its handy automatic lasers. It’s only a matter of time before another player comes up with something even more stunning, and fans of the latest Zelda game wouldn’t have it any other way.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
