Two talented cosplayers recreated Sonia and Rauru from 2023's critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Rauru and Sonia are the king and queen of Hyrule and Zonai civilizations respectively, and their roles are integral to the story and events of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released on May 12, 2023, as the direct sequel to 2017's highly successful Switch launch title, Zelda: Breath of the Wild. At the beginning of the game, Link is separated from Zelda after Ganondorf's revival underneath Hyrule Castle, and his arm becomes gravely injured. However, Link's arm was replaced by Rauru, granting him the ability to wield ancient Zonai powers like Ultrahand and Recall. Players say goodbye to Rauru after completing the first main quest and descending to mainland Hyrule, but they're able to learn more about the Zonai king and Sonia by collecting and viewing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Memories. Collecting Memories also helps players find clues about Zelda's whereabouts and learn more about Ganondorf's conquest of Hyrule.

Reddit user ConfidentOffice410, with the help of photographer final_egirl and fellow cosplayer flip.wizardry on Instagram, cosplayed as Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Sonia and Rauru for the annual Katsucon fan convention. According to ConfidentOffice410, each cosplay took around four and a half hours to prepare for the convention, and someone helped ConfidentOffice410 apply the temporary Zonai tattoos to complete the Sonia cosplay. In the comment section, the user revealed that the cosplayers would be happy to wear the Sonia and Rauru cosplays for Katsucon 2025, since cosplays of the Hyrule queen and Zonai king appear to be uncommon.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to the beloved open-world adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This installment once again sees Link and Zelda battling to protect Hyrule from falling to Ganondorf. This new adventure takes place in the same land of Hyrule as Breath of the Wild but sees something called the Upheaval, which allows link to travel to Sky Islands, as well as deep into the Depths beneath Hyrule. Players can use special abilities to fuse together weapons, and build items to help them progress through the release.
