The Gerudo Region is one of the more difficult areas to navigate in Tears of the Kingdom on a first visit. Players that set out for Gerudo Town may find themselves at the North Gerudo Ruins. Keep heading north, and players will find the Northern Icehouse. Inside, players can accept and complete a very easy side quest with a modest reward.
The Iceless Icehouse can be completed any time before or after Tears of the Kingdom' s Lightning Temple. Before initiating the side quest, it's advised for players to have an
Ice Fruit and
Fire Fruit. Other items like elemental Chuchu Jelly or gems work as well.
Where is the Northern Icehouse?
Players can find the Northern Icehouse at the coordinates -3747, -2306, 0040. It's at the very northern point of the North Gerudo Ruins (-3769, -2646, 0032), which players will eventually have to visit to complete the main quest "Riju of the Gerudo."
The Northern Icehouse can be reached from just about anywhere, but it's recommended to start from the following:
- Gerudo Town (-3875, -2864, 0043): Head north to the Icehouse.
- Kara Kara Bazaar (-3273, -2551, 0023): Head west to the Icehouse.
- Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower (-3966, -1260, 0426): Glide south from the Tower to the Icehouse's coordinates.
If this is the player's first time in the Gerudo Region, then the map will be obscured the minute they step into the desert/wasteland. It will also be harder to see thanks to the desert storm, so use the updrafts to rise above the cloud to "clear up" the map. Those leaving from the Kara Kara Bazaar can grab the Sand Seal near the bazaar's Shrine to make walking through the sands much easier.
The Iceless Icehouse Walkthrough (How to Melt Ice)
Go inside the Icehouse and speak to the Gerudo. She'll mention how the Icehouse is used for supplying the ice for making drinks at the Noble Canteen in Gerudo Town. Speaking to her unlocks "The Iceless Icehouse" side quest and adds it to the Adventure Log.
There aren't any prerequisites to unlocking "The Iceless Icehouse" side quest. However, it's recommended to do it after clearing the Lighting Temple just so that it's easier to find the icehouse.
Players will need to freeze a block of ice and fit it into the cavity in the wall. Here's what to do:
- Hold down R-button so that Link is poised to throw his weapon. Do not release R-button just yet.
- Hold up on the directional pad to open up the Materials.
- Use R-stick to scroll to Ice Fruit or White Chuchu Jelly.
- Release up on the directional pad, and aim the reticle at the water. Then, release R-button.
If done successfully, the Ice Fruit/White Chuchu Jelly will create a large square of ice that can be picked up with Ultrahand. The Gerudo will then ask Link to resize the ice:
- Move the out of the water.
-
Do the same thing as earlier, only select a
Fire Fruit
or
Red Chuchu Jelly
instead.
- Toss one (1) Fire-material at the ice block to shrink it.
- Use Ultrahand and slide it into the wall.
If players don't have a Fire Fruit or Red Chuchu Jelly, they can use the Zonai Flame Emitter, or they can fuse a Ruby to their weapon. Keep in mind that using the
Flame Emitter or a Ruby will melt the ice much faster than a Fire Fruit. For those using a Ruby, simply equip it and stand next to the ice to slowly melt it. If Link melts the ice completely, he'll have to start over.
If players have a Torch or flammable melee weapon, they can light it using the campfire outside the Icehouse. Bring it back inside (do not press B-button) and hold down Y-button next to the ice. This method is useful if players are saving up materials.
The Iceless Icehouse Reward
Completing "The Iceless Icehouse" rewards Link with 50 rupees. It won't pay much for armor, but Link can repeat this side quest as many times as he wants as long as the shelf is empty. It might take some time before the icehouse needs more ice again, but when it does, freeze up a block and earn another 50 rupees.
