The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features many ingredients that players can collect in their travels throughout Hyrule and used in a wide variety of cooking recipes. Simple recipes will typically only restore Link’s health, while recipes including more specific ingredients can grant helpful, limited-duration buffs when consumed.
Razorclaw Crab and
Ironshell Crab are particularly useful ingredients that can be used as a seafood-type ingredient in various cooking recipes. Many of the areas to farm
Razorclaw Crab will also sometimes spawn
Ironshell Crab in their place, so it may be hit or miss how many of each are obtained after a trip out to these spots. Here are the best locations in Tears of the Kingdom to find and catch
Razorclaw Crab and
Ironshell Crab.
Where to Farm Razorclaw Crab and Ironshell Crab
The best location for farming
Razorclaw Crab is on the southern coast of the Lanayru Bay, directly north from the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower. Use the tower to launch into the sky, then glide north to reach the beach at coordinates (3876, -0674, 0001). Here, players can find a few small groups of
Razorclaw Crab, typically around six or seven at a time.
The two types of crabs are fairly simple to tell apart even from a distance:
Razorclaw Crab have a blue-green shell, while
Ironshell Crab are bright red. Neither type of crab will scare easily, so Link won’t have to be too sneaky to approach and collect them, though it’s worth noting that the
Ironshell Crab will run away much faster.
The northern coast of the Lanayru Bay, around coordinates (3998, -0467, 0000) where the area gets windy, also features a wide beach that players can visit to grab a few more
Razorclaw Crab. Additionally, the stone islands throughout the area are great for collecting
Ironshell Crab, and the nearby waters can occasionally have
Mighty Porgy, which also can be used to cook attack power increasing food.
Overall, the beaches along Hyrule’s seas are generally acceptable places to find both species of crab, but they are often very expansive. This means the crab spawns are few and far between, especially compared to the coasts of Lanayru Bay. Players can also find a handful of crabs on the shores of Eventide Island, but it’s only recommended to head out there if the player has already unlocked the Marari-In Shrine and can fast travel.
What Are Razorclaw Crab and Ironshell Crab Used For
Cooking
Razorclaw Crab without including any other status-affecting ingredients results in meals that boost attack power when consumed. The effect and duration of attack power buff of these “Mighty” meals can be increased by including more Razorclaw Crabs in the recipe, making it beneficial to learn to effectively farm the crustaceans. These critters are also one of the materials required to upgrade the Barbarian Armor set.
Ironshell Crab, on the other hand, can be used in cooking recipes to create “Tough” meals, which increase Link’s defense for a limited duration when consumed. This buff too can be extended by including more
Ironshell Crab when preparing the recipe. Here are a few helpful crab recipes, with the buff depending on which crab is used.
