Tears of the Kingdom is Zelda’s most recent addition to the franchise and it has proven to be a great success for all fans, old and new.

In a game that requires Link to travel throughout Hyrule and fight powerful enemies, the best that a player can do is provide him with powerful armor to see him through on his quest to defeat Ganondorf.

How To Upgrade Armor In Tears Of The Kingdom

In the Legend Of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, the player has the option to upgrade their armor, and to do that, the Four Great Fairies, located all across Hyrule, are important.

Tera, the eldest fairy, alongside her sisters Cotera, Kaysa, and Mija, will upgrade Link’s armor in exchange for Rupees and material.

How to Find The Great Fairies And Upgrade Armor

To unlock one of them, the player will have to take on the “Potential Princess Sightings!” Quest, not far from the Rito village at the Lucky Clover Gazette. Then, heading to the Woodland Stable, the “Serenade to a Great Fairy” side quest awaits to grant access to the eldest Great Fairy, Tera.

Each Fairy is located in a different area:

Great Fairy Tera will be waiting northwest of the Woodland Stable and Ekochiu Shrine, right next to the Military Training Camp.
Great Fairy Mija is located northeast of the Snowfirled Stable around the Hebra region.
Great Fairy Kaysa is found west of the Outskirt stable, south of the Manhalla bridge.
Great Fairy Cotera is sitting south of the Dueling Peaks stable, right next to the Little Twin Bridge.

Unlike in Breath of The Wild, the fairies will not come out by being handed over a certain amount of rupees. Instead, they do so after hearing the beautiful music that Link will provide after reuniting members of a music band by completing side quests.

After unlocking one of the Great Fairies, all Link has to do is provide her with the correct material she asks for and give her some Rupees which will vary from 10 on the first upgrade to 500 on the last.

Sometimes, these fairies will ask for rare material which will make armor hard to upgrade. Their prices can also reach up to 500 Rupees, which will not be easy to provide but it's well worth it in the end to provide Link with the best protection available.
