While various monsters return in Tears of the Kingdom, some are brand-new additions to the Zelda franchise. As such, hunting these new monsters have become a key part in several side quests that Link can grab at Lookout Landing. Players that choose to help will eventually unlock the "Unknown Sky Giant" side quest.
Players may want to attempt the "Unknown Sky Giant" when Link has more heart containers and better weapons. It involves defeating a golem miniboss called a Flux Construct I. Although they may be the weakest type of Flux Constructs, they can be a major threat to Tears of the Kingdom newcomers.
How to Unlock "Unknown Sky Giant"
Once players have completed the tutorial mode on the Great Sky Island and received the Paraglider from Purah, they can head towards the Lookout Landing Shelter and speak to a man named Gralens. He's standing by the map on the wall in the shelter, so it shouldn't be hard to miss him.
If Link chooses to ask about the monster sightings, Gralens will task him with three side quests:
- WANTED: Hinox
- WANTED: Stone Talus
- WANTED: Molduga
These can be completed at any time, and if players go into the Adventure Log, they can track one of the side quests. This will put a yellow marker on the map with the exact location of the miniboss. The Hinox is the closest monster to Lookout Landing, but the Stone Talus and Molduga will take some traveling.
Link must complete the "WANTED" side quests before he can attempt the remaining three Monster-Control Crew side quests, including "Unknown Sky Giant."
"Unknown Sky Giant" Walkthrough
Once the three "WANTED" side quests are completed, speak to Gralens again and inquite about the three monsters. Ask about the "sky giant" to get the "Unknown Sky Giant." This reports a giant monster on one of the Sky Islands in the western Hebra region. Fortunately, players can mark this miniboss' location in the Adventure Log, making it easier to track down.
Before heading off to complete the side quest, make sure to bring bomb arrows and a hard-hitting weapon. While it isn't necessary, it's not a bad idea to have some of the Sages, particularly the Vow of Yunobo. If players want to be creative, they can stock up on some Zonai Springs for the boss fight as well.
"Unknown Sky Giant" Location
The "Sky Giant" is a golem creature called a Flux Construct I, and it's right near the Wind Temple. If players have activated the Ijo-o Shrine (-3887, 2787, 0709), they can warp there instead. Jump off the island with the Ijo-o Shrine to the lower island with the Flux Construct I.
Weapons won't have any effect on its body. Players will want to target the Flux Construct Core (green block) to inflict damage. This block will change locations as the construct's health gets lower. If Link can strike the green block hard enough, the Flux Construct's body will temporarily crumble.
Once it's defeated, pick up the dropped materials and fuse the Flux Construct Core to a weapon. It's only a Flux Construct I, so its core won't be as powerful as its stronger counterparts. Regardless, it makes a good ore-breaking weapon. Anyway, warp back to Lookout Landing and report the good news to Gralens.
Tips for Defeating Flux Construct I
The Flux Construct core/green block is the key to any of the Flux Constructs' defeat. Although its slow-moving, it can rearrange its body to reach Link. Most of its attacks will send out shockwaves when they hit, so it's not a good idea to be near it when it's about to strike.
Players should try to stun the Flux Construct as much as possible. This can be done by:
- Shooting the core with a bomb arrow.
-
Use Ultrahand on the core and shake it loose. The latter method may be riskier since Link's movement speed lowers when he's using Ultrahand, but it's one way to cause the construct's body to fall apart if players are lacking
Bomb Flowers.
When the construct's body breaks, rush over to the green core and get in as many hits as possible.
If Link managed to pack Zonai Springs, he can stack them and launch himself in the air. Use the paraglider to bring him closer to the core, and use the bow (ZR-button). This will slow down time and make it easier for players to aim and shoot at the Flux Construct.
"Unknown Sky Giant" Reward
Turn in the "Unknown Sky Giant" side quest to Gralens to get 100 Rupees as a reward. If players already defeated the Flux Construct I, then they can get the reward immediately. Players can then focus on completing the remaining two "Unknown [Monster]" side quests.
