There are a variety of flowers in Tears of the Kingdom that can be used for cooking. A safflina will give a cold, warm, or electric resistance depending on the type of safflina. Warm Safflinas and Cold Safflinas are great if players needs to visit an area with hot and cold temperatures respectively, but cooking an Electric Safflina won't make Link resistant to climate.

Electric Safflinas will grant Link Shock Resistance. This means if he's hit by an electric weapon, he won't drop his weapons. Like every other sasafflina, Electric Safflinas are picky about their environments. Tears of the Kingdom players will have an easier time finding them if they look in the southwest Hyrule.

How to Get Electric Safflina

The Electric Safflinas tend to grow in the Gerudo Desert. Since the desert is large and hard to navigate, players will want to purchase the Sand Boots, use a Sand Seal, or use a Zonai Device (like a hoverboard) to make traveling the sands much easier.

If this Link's first time arriving in the Gerudo Desert, then the area will be completely swamped by an unending desert storm. The map will also be obscured. While it's not required to do so before Electric Safflina-farming, players may want to clear the Lightning Temple ("Riju of the Gerudo") before exploring the desert.

Players should also get the Camera, Hyrule Compendium, and Sensor+ from Robbie. This will allow them to track Electric Safflinas. To get these devices, players should start by speaking to Josha and Robbie at Lookout Landing. This launches them into a series of side quests that can potentially lead to the completion of the Purah Pad.

There are two surefire places to look for Electric Safflinas in the Gerudo Desert. One is just a little ways south of Gerudo Town while the other is near one of the Shrines of Light.

Gerudo Desert

Around -4171, -3084, 0035 is a pile of bones. Players can reach this by using the paraglider from Gerudo Town's Shrine (Mayatat Shrine). Near the "entrance" to the pile of bones is a Bokoblin and an Electric Lizalfos. Players can bypass these enemies by wearing Majora's Mask if they don't wish to fight. Otherwise, it's better to take them out before searching for the safflinas.

Beneath the "ribcage" of the bones are Electric and Warm Safflinas. There should be about five Electric Safflinas in this particular area. Once this area has been combed, it'll be time to look some place else.

Karahatag Shrine

Far south of Gerudo Town is the Karahatag Shrine (-3714, -3618, 0044). Just like the bones, players can find Electric and Warm Safflinas in this area. Since the Karahatag Shrine is farther away from Gerudo Town, players may want to clear up the desert before looking here. Otherwise, use the wind currents to lift Link above the sandstorm so that he can see the glow of the shrine. From there, players will have a better idea of which direction they need to glide.

How to Use Electric Safflina

Electric Safflinas have several uses:

  • Cooking
  • Dyeing
  • Upgrading the Rubber Armor Set

If players cook an Electric Safflina, they'll get level 1-3 Shock Resistance. The duration of the effect can be extended by adding more Electric Safflinas. Players can either cook a bundle of five safflinas together, or they can throw them into a recipe such as a Veggie Omelette (Bird Egg, Electric Safflina, Goat Butter, Rock Salt).

Those that want to dye their armor should take the Electric Safflinas to Kochi's Dye Shop (3400, -2139, 0121) in Hateno Village. Due to their coloring, Electric Safflinas can only be used to make yellow dye. Keep in mind that some armor (such as the Champions' Leathers) can't have their color changed.

Lastly, Electric Safflinas can be used to upgrade armor. The upgrade feature unlocks after helping the Stable Trotters during the "Lucky Clover Gazette" side adventure. After that, players will have to visit the stables near the remaining three Great Fairy Fountains and help them once more. Armor can be upgraded a total of four times once all the Great Fairies have been "freed."

Players will need the following amount of Electric Safflinas for upgrading the Rubber Armor Set:
