Hyrule Castle in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been hiding a secret chest that some players are surprised to find out was there. Like Breath of the Wild before it, Tears of the Kingdom is set in a massive open-world version of Hyrule that has secrets hiding all over its sprawling map, even in spots players have explored countless times.

Hyrule Castle has been a mainstay landmark in several Zelda games throughout the nearly 40 years of the series’ existence. The version of the castle presented in Tears of the Kingdom floats in the air and has been overrun by Ganondorf’s army of monsters. The castle holds a variety of cleverly disguised treasures, including a secret chest in a dock beneath the castle that hides a certain iconic shield.

Some treasure chests in Tears of the Kingdom require a little more effort to uncover, like the chests buried in the ground. But there’s one many players might have missed that was brought to the Tears of the Kingdom community’s attention by a player who goes by Middleman86 on Reddit. In a post, Middleman86 explained that if players light the touches in the castle library, a chest will appear at the top of a staircase. The chest holds a gold rupee, which is worth 300 rupees.

Middleman86’s post was seen by another member of the subreddit named davidmullings, who decided to test out the claim. Davidmullings recorded their attempt and reveled that there was indeed a secret chest in the castle library holding the most valuable rupee in the game. The video shows davidmullings maneuvering Link around the library, firing off fused flaming arrows at the torches positioned along the two staircases on either end of the library. Once the torches are lit, a chest rises from a patch of dirt on the floor at the top of one of the staircases. It’s no rupee farm, but the chest does hold a gold rupee worth 300 rupees.

Several members of the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit were surprised to see that the chest was hiding in a spot they’d visited more than a few times. Others couldn’t help but laugh at the fact that after the chest was so cleverly hidden away behind a puzzle few knew even existed, all it contained was a gold rupee and not, as some in the subreddit suggested, a strong shield or a powerful sword.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for Nintendo Switch.
