Characters in Zenless Zone Zero each have their own specialty that defines their role in combat. Akin to Paths from HoYoverse's previous game, Honkai: Star Rail, players can think of character specialties as classes from traditional RPGs, which determines the scope of their abilities and power.
There are five specialties in Zenless Zone Zero: Attack, Stun, Support, Defense, and Anomaly. While some specialties are currently lacking in numbers, like Defense, HoYoverse is bound to introduce more characters in future updates.
Attack: The Main Damage Dealers
The Attack specialty focuses on outputting high amounts of damage in a fight. Characters with this specialty are the primary damage dealers of the team. Each team aims to have at least one Attack specialty to ensure fights end as swiftly as possible.

Support: Enhancing the Team
The Support specialty focuses on enhancing the combat effectiveness of the team through various buffs and debuffs, as well as crowd control. While debuffs on enemies are typically applied universally, some buffs from Support characters are exclusive to units sharing the same Attribute or Faction. This specialty closely resembles Harmony units from Honkai: Star Rail.

Stun: Daze Specialists
The Stun specialty excels at quickly building up Daze meters on enemies. When a Daze meter is filled, the enemy becomes Stunned, rendering them unable to perform any action and causing them to take increased damage from the Agents. Stunning is especially important against bosses in order to bring them down quicker and prevent their deadly attacks.

Defense: Protecting the Team
Characters with the Defense specialty are incredibly tanky and serve to protect the team through utilities like shields and parries. Defense characters are highly resistant against interruptions, allowing them to stand their ground against the deadliest of attacks. Players will find this specialty similar to Preservation units from Honkai: Star Rail. Currently, Ben Bigger is the only Defense unit in Zenless Zone Zero, but players can obtain a copy of him for free by progressing through the story.

Anomaly: Masters of the Elements
Anomaly specialty characters excel at applying their respective Attributes (elements) to enemies, causing Anomaly Buildup, and inflicting debuffs. Accumulation of Anomaly Buildup eventually triggers an Attribute-specific effect. For example, having enough Electric Anomaly Buildup triggers the Shock effect, which interrupts enemies and applies an Electric DoT. While not identical, the Anomaly specialty functions similarly to characters from Genshin Impact that specialize in applying Elements to targets in order to trigger Elemental Reactions.

Zenless Zone Zero: Koleda Guide (Best Build, Weapon, Drive Disc, Skills, & Mindscape Cinema)
Koleda is a Stun Agent in Zenless Zone Zero, so players should build her with stats like Impact.
Specialties in Zenless Zone Zero play an important role in creating team compositions and tackling different end-game content. However, like other HoYoverse games, characters are not strictly confined to their designated roles. Players can still freely choose how to play their characters, such as using Nicole in a damage-dealing role instead of as a support.

Don't go into the Hollows.
I know, I know, there's Ether in the Hollows, bizarre creations, even heritage of the old civilization, all precious treasures. But don't forget, there's also spatial disorder, monsters and mutants running rampant, and ultimately, a disaster that could swallow the world. They are not a place where ordinary people should go.
So don't go into Hollows.
Or at least, don't go in alone.
If you insist on getting into danger, go to New Eridu first.
This city where the good and the bad mix has many people who need the Hollows: Powerful wealthy tycoons, gangs that stalk the streets, conspiracy nuts, and ruthless officials.
Make your preparations there, find strong allies, and most importantly—
Find a "Proxy".
Only they can guide people out of the maze-like Hollows.
Good luck!
