Aside from the main story, the urban sci-fi RPG from HoYoverse offers plenty for players to do throughout New Eridu, both during the story's progression and for the endgame. Players can visit the Godfinger arcade to play multiple mini-games, tackle the "Hollow Zero" dungeon for a variety of rewards, and farm resources through several different combat challenges. However, one particular game mode focuses on players' damage and in-game skill.

Shiyu Defense serves as Zenless Zone Zero's version of popular game modes like "Memory of Chaos" and "Spiral Abyss" from Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact. A Zenless Zone Zero chart shared by prominent community member hxg_diluc showcases the usage rates for each member of the RPG's cast in Shiyu Defense. Version 1.0 five-star character Ellen overwhelmingly leads the pack with a 99.9% usage rate among the 13,599 players surveyed. Three other characters all boast play rates above 90% in Shiyu Defense, with Zhu Yuan sitting at 98.1% while Lycaon boasts a 97.4% play rate and Soukaku stands at 94.1% usage. The newly-released Qingyi has also already been a popular choice for players, with the Electric Stun character climbing to 87.1% usage.
