Unknown Corruption Complex is a Notorious Hunt weekly boss that players can challenge in Zenless Zone Zero. Players can claim rewards from Notorious Hunt bosses up to three times each week, including Core Skill upgrade materials and Investigation Merits.

Players can unlock Unknown Corruption Complex by completing the quest [Investigation] Trace to the Source at the end of Chapter 2. Unknown Corruption Complex in Notorious Hunt is much more difficult than the one encountered during the story. However, with proper team compositions and an understanding of boss attack patterns, players can conquer Unknown Corruption Complex in Zenless Zone Zero even with free A-Rank agents.

Boss Weaknesses, Team Compositions, & Resonium Choice

zzz_unknown_corruption_complex_profile

Unknown Corruption Complex is a corrupted construction machine that players first encounter together with Belobog Heavy Industries at the end of Chapter 2. The boss has two main weaknesses that players can exploit: Electric and Ether.

Anby and Nicole are both great free options for players. As an Electric Agent, Anby's Stun specialty allows players to lock down the boss with Stun and Shock, increasing damage windows for the team. Nicole, an Ether support, also provides fantastic utility through her DEF reduction on enemies from her Core Skill. When it comes to premium choices, Grace and Anton are both excellent Electric damage-dealing options. Regardless of the chosen Agents, it is recommended to at least have a Stun specialty Agent on the team to increase the boss's downtime.

Players can eat Bone Broth Noodles at the Noodle Shop for a 30% DMG buff against bosses.

Once players enter the encounter, they will be asked to choose a Resonium. While the best choice is dependent on the player's team, [Assist] Ether Reaction Device is an excellent option for more frequent Anomaly applications on the boss.

After choosing a Resonium, players will first need to fight a special version of a Heavy Striker before facing the boss. Unlike a normal Heavy Striker, which is weak to Fire and Physical, the shield on this version can only be broken by a Stun from Daze or a Shock Anomaly. As with the normal version, it is recommended to stand behind the Striker to avoid its frontal fire, missiles, and charge attacks.

How to Beat Unknown Corruption Complex (Phase 1)

zenless_zone_zero_complex_phase1

The Unknown Corruption Complex encounter heavily emphasizes dodging, as many of the boss's abilities cannot be parried. The boss's main hitboxes are its four legs, which can unexpectedly shift positions as the boss executes its attacks, causing players to miss abilities. While players can also attack its main body, it is not recommended to get that close due to the restrictive space, making it harder to dodge. The majority of the boss's attack patterns can be found in Phase 1.

  • Upper Limb Attack: The boss winds up one of its upper limbs to strike at the player's position. None of the following attacks from its upper limbs can be parried, so players must be ready to dodge them.
    • Right Arm: The right arm strikes the ground and deals ticking damage in its vicinity, staggering any Agents caught in the area.
    • Left Arm: The left arm strikes the ground and activates its drill, pulling in Agents in the area and dealing continuous damage for a few seconds.
    • Tail: Smashes the ground with its tail.
  • Leg Stomp: The boss raises one of its legs to stomp at the player.
    • This attack can be parried.
  • Homing Missiles: The boss lets out a roar and fires a series of homing missiles at the player.
    • This attack can be quite difficult to dodge even with a running head start. While this attack can't be parried normally, characters with blades, such as Anby, Soldier 11, Nekomata, and Ellen Joe, can deflect projectiles while they are sprinting, making them great options to bring to the fight.
  • Two Arm Combo: The boss will swipe its right arm across the field and follow it up with a slam from its left arm. There is a variation of this attack where the boss swipes with its left arm and slams with its right.
    • Neither arm can be parried.
  • Laser: The boss's tail will glow before firing a laser that follows the player around for five seconds, leaving a trail in its wake. After the laser ends, the trail will detonate, dealing damage to Agents near it.
    • Neither the laser nor the explosion can be parried.
  • Frontal Drill: If the player is out of range, the boss will put its tail in front and charge towards the player.
    • This attack cannot be parried.
  • Boulder Toss: If the player is out of range, the boss tosses a large boulder at the player with its tail.
    • This attack cannot be parried.
  • Leap: if the player is out of range, the boss leaps at the player.
    • This attack cannot be parried.

How to Beat Unknown Corruption Complex (Phase 2)

zzz_unknown_corruption_complex_phase2

After depleting Unknown Corruption Complex's HP bar, it will begin transitioning to Phase 2. Be careful during the transition, as the boss will swing its arms around him. Although attack patterns remain largely the same, the boss becomes faster and some attacks gain slight variations.

  • Spin: The boss spins its entire body at the player.
  • Tail Variation: The tail will occasionally slam down twice in quick succession.
  • Leg Stomp Variation: the leg will occasionally stomp twice in quick succession.

If players are not confident about dodging, they can bring Ben to Block and Counter with his Special Attack.

Unknown Corruption Complex can be quite a challenging encounter in Zenless Zone Zero due to its wide variety of unparryable attack patterns. However, with the right team composition, players can effectively lock down the boss through Stuns and Shocks, reducing the frequency of its attacks and making the fight more manageable.
