Zenless Zone Zero Leak Teases "Open World" Areas

A new report shared by prominent HoYoverse leaker Mero is teasing the addition of new "open world" zones within the Waifei Peninsula. The leak suggests that Version 2.0's map update will feature several new areas where players are free to explore using their in-game teams, hinting at open areas inhabited by enemies. Zenless Zone Zero's current locations do not feature any open combat areas, usually constraining its combat to the HIA Club, Scott Outpost challenges, and in-game missions. Version 2.0 is currently expected to launch on June 4.

The implementation of "open world combat" areas will likely look to follow precedents set by the developer's past games. Honkai Impact 3rd features a similar concept with some of its game modes, including several "open" stages with different missions to complete and enemies to challenge. Genshin Impact also saw the developer make its first attempt at a fully open-world RPG, with the beloved game serving as HoYoverse's most successful title to date. Zenless Zone Zero even featured some more open areas in Version 1.4's "Into That Pale Wasteland" event.

Zenless Zone Zero's newest update looks to be bringing plenty for players to do beyond the game's combat and new exploration. Leaks have hinted that HoYoverse may be planning to add a mahjong mini-game to Zenless Zone Zero, referencing new beta models and textures. Skins are also expected to be a major focus of the new region's debut, with both of the Proxies receiving new skins and even seeing interchangeable outfits. Zenless Zone Zero's Version 2.0 update looks to kick off the game's first anniversary celebration with a bang.
