Getting a 5-Star character in Zenless Zone Zero often requires spending a lot of Signal Searches, which are already a currency that is hard to come by. However, despite these S-Rank characters requiring a lot of time and effort, the game does allow you to eventually get a few of them for free on one of the Standard Banners.

However, once you are given the choice to pick one of the S-Rank characters for free, you might be torn between which one to pick. With six different options available to you, we will provide you with information on how you can get one of these free S-Rank characters, and which ones are the best.

How to Choose a Free 5-Star Character in Zenless Zone Zero

Zenless Zone Zero: S-Rank Selector Guide (Festival Channel) Anniversary Event Guide

The Festival Channel in Zenless Zone Zero celebrates the game's anniversary by offering a free 5-Star character and W-Engine; here's what to consider.

  • Summon 50 times & 90 times on the Star-Studded Cast Standard Banner for a random S-Rank Character
  • Summon 300 times on the Star-Studded Cast Standard Banner to choose an S-Rank Character

As you can see, although you can get a free 5-Star character once you pull on the Star-Studded Cast Banner 50 times and 90 times, these will be random, so you won't be able to choose which character you get. However, once you have spent some time in the game and have racked up 300 pulls on the Banner, you will finally get the chance to choose from the 6 available 5-Star characters on the Standard Banner. So, of these options, which ones are the best to choose?

If you want to check how many pulls you've already made on the Standard Banner, click the spot at the bottom with a gauge and a button next to it that says 'Selectable Agents'. This will tell you how many pulls you've made, and how many you have left until you reach 300 pulls.

Which 5-Star Character Should You Choose in Zenless Zone Zero?

Image of the 5-Star character Koleda in Zenless Zone Zero

For the Star-Studded Cast Standard Banner where you can get a free character, these are the 6 options you can choose from:

  • Nekomata
  • Koleda
  • Soldier 11
  • Rina
  • Grace
  • Lycaon

While most of these characters are great options, we suggest either choosing Lycaon or Rina, depending on what you are more in need of. Lycaon serves as a debuffer, while Rina will be good for support.

Lycaon is a fantastic option for your team to make them stronger by giving them a buff to their Daze DMG, while also actively reducing the enemy's resistance to Ice. As for Rina, she is great all-around, being able to deal a large amount of damage to enemies while also giving the rest of the team the ability to ignore their enemy's defense. She can work really well with Electric characters, as she will easily buff Shock reactions.

Overall, it is best to stick to Lycaon or Rina if you want to get the most out of the free options available to you. They can both deal impressive damage, while helping your team to stay as powerful as possible against the enemy. If you are in need of a debuffer for an Ice-focused team, go with Lycaon; if you are in need of some support for an Electric-focused team, go with Rina.
