Hollow Zero is one of the best game modes in Zenless Zone Zero, renowned for its replayability. However, its unique mechanics can be confusing for beginners. This guide aims to simplify every feature and gameplay mechanic in Hollow Zero, helping players navigate its regions efficiently.
Zenless Zone Zero: Every Stat, Explained
Stats are a crucial RPG element in Zenless Zone Zero that you must master early on; here's what each of them means and how they affect gameplay.
Hollow Zero Game Mode Fundamentals
Hollow Zero is the roguelike game mode in Zenless Zone Zero, comprised of six regions with different difficulty levels. Once you start a Hollow Zero session, you must explore several HDDs and combat waves of enemies in exchange for rare rewards.
The goal in Hollow Zero is to defeat as many powerful foes as possible within the shortest time. As you progress, new regions and levels unlock, introducing more challenging enemies. In classic roguelike fashion, by the time you encounter these tougher enemies, your character is sufficiently buffed to defeat them.
Hollow Zero has its own terminology that defines its unique mechanics and items. Before diving into this game mode, it's essential to familiarize yourself with Resonia, Bounty Missions, Combat Configuration, Hollow Shop, and Corruption.
Hollow Resonium
While exploring Hollow Zero’s HDD system, you will encounter monitors with question marks. Moving to these tiles allows your Agent to choose among three power cards known as Hollow Resonia. Hollow Resonia come in different categories, but all of them are stat or skill buffs.
If you manage to collect four or eight of the same Hollow Resonium, you will get an additional Advanced Hollow Resonium card in return. This process is called Catalyzation, though the catalyzed cards won’t be removed from the deck.
Bounty Missions
Each week at a specific time, Hollow Zero adds new Bounty Missions. These missions are divided into two categories based on their difficulty: Special and Common.
Common Bounty Missions are ranked S, A, and B, with S being the most challenging. You can complete up to three Common missions per week and have two chances per week to refresh these tasks. Special Missions, however, are not refreshable, but you can complete four of them weekly.
Combat Configuration
Combat Configuration consists of permanent buffs and stat adjustments that stay with your Agent throughout Hollow Zero explorations. Unlike Hollow Resonia, which resets at the start of each mission, Combat Configurations remain intact as you unlock new levels.
To buy Combat Configuration, you need Withered Crystals, a Hollow Zero-exclusive currency in Zenless Zone Zero.
Shop
The Hollow Shop appears as an HDD tile in some regions of Hollow Zero. Here, you can purchase Resonia, buff, and healing items, or catalyze your Resonia to obtain better power cards.
Corruption
Corruption is a team-wide debuff that you are inflicted with simply because of exploring Hollow Zero. Once your squad has 100 Pressure points, they get a random effect that will negatively affect one aspect of their stats or abilities.
How to Unlock Hollow Zero
Hollow Zero unlocks once you complete Chapter One – Intermission quest. It will become accessible via the Compendium under the Challenges tab. However, you can also start investigations in the Scott Outpost, where you meet Ray for the first time.
Hollow Zero Rewards (License Level)
Exploring Hollow Zero's infected zones rewards you with Investigation Points. These points contribute to increasing your Investigation License, which functions similarly to a battle pass reward system, granting you access to rare resources.

Exploit Hollow Resonia Synergies
Prioritize getting duplicates of the power cards you already have. This allows for unlocking more Advanced Hollow Resonia and gaining better abilities.
Choose a Striker as Your Leader
Given that Hollow Zero is a time-oriented game mode, it’s best to go in with a Striker. Agents with Striker Specialty are hasty assassins, helping you clear each floor as quickly as possible.
Strategize Your HDD Movement
Try to minimize your movement, as stepping onto each HDD tile gives you ten Corruption points. If you want fewer debuffs in Hollow Zero, explore only the tiles that yield rewards or are crucial for your progress.
